Konstas and head would both be very aggressive openers m I think they will stick with the same combo . noted head opened in India but that was a real pickle after ten overs it was a spin fest that skidded making it impossible to bat so they wanted quick runs in first ten overs

rowds I think your assuming alot with what smith actually saw when he passed by Warner and Bancroft at some distance looking sheepish m it’s a big call to be certain on it and he could have just passed by . bare in mind we are only looking at two test matches now . I think smith will do what champions do and leave end of ashes when still making runs . we will see . after that I see an argument to say head is next captain off the rank m I’d like to see him get that average on tour in to upper 30s . upper 20s is very poor and he needs to concentrate on that batting and discipline abroad for me. as always I do value your interesting analysis mate and do agree bowlers arent always the best choice as captains . paddys making a pretty good go of it after the disaster of a captain paine was in the last few years of his tenancy . mcgrath and Warne on average provided more edged than this current lot in my opinion. two of Australias top 5 bowlers of all time

donny that’s a funny one ..basically two of our besst of all time. careys turning in to one of the greatest Australian keepers of all time it was inevitable for me . inglis not at same level but good still

indeed so good to see people naturally praising Carey now . it was inevitable years ago and a no brainer appointment as keeper

I don’t expect smith to be captain again rowdy just on interim foreign tours this year if Cummins isn’t on board that’s likely just sri lanka , we are talking two tests . I think everyone needs to calm the farm on it . heads got to improve abroad and focus on his batting for sure first . once again head has to get the form on the board on foreign tours and average of 28 is poor whilst abroad a few good tours and I’m sure he can step up to fill in when Paddy isn’t captain from 2026 .
I know it’s a sore point for you but so far I can’t see any series head would have won as captain in front of Paddy . he’s not ready imho but more to the point Paddy’s going nowhere for 24 months plus unless injury occurs . head is likely to be fully fledged vice captain in a year or so as Smith may well go of his own volition after the ashes I think . smith is based in NYC last few years from what I’m reading as hassled to much in Sydney . kids will be on his and his wife’s horizon soon, my money is smith might actually walk after scg test next year, as he is not ego driven like warner , as not sure he will be up for foreign tours by then . head only has a year to go in theory to be next cab off the rank . that said rowdy you need to let go of sandpaper gate and acknowledge Warner made his own decision to use sandpaper and get the kid Bancroft involved . we were robbed of two years of smith at his prime one of best batsmen of all time . head will never get to that level of batting or average

Similar drop in average happened with Warner it took years to get rid of him or rather for him to retire . uk averaged under 20 for the series against India this summer it’s not good enough and I thought he was batting really well until 18 months ago or so . he was fantastic it’s not personal

Id agree at 38 there aren’t many that hold form with the bat . hand eye and footwork coordination just tapers off in every human being let alone 10 percent that is needed at the elite level of international cricket .
Bailey and co pretty weak on retiring the older players such as Warner so it will be interesting to see if uk makes it through to retire at end of the ashes in a year

either way doesn’t matter smith has more experience and head has an average of 28 abroad needs to focus on that first . maybe in 3 or 4 years he can have a brief stint . he’s 31 now there won’t be much time for him as captain.. let’s assume Paddy goes for another 3 years as captain by then head will be 34 . too late in my book . by then green could be groomed if he keeps up his form

uk isn’t playing well enough . bumrah wasn’t there to get him out second innings early . He should go but I feel I will do a warner and play on to the end of the ashes if left to his own devices . he was batting fantastic until the beginning of last summer

44..I couldn’t have banged the drum on not selecting him and Lyon any more at scg . they don’t work there against top teams . there’s a tail end to mop up now so the wickets could go to any of the bowlers now . I think my point has been proven yet again in this test . 36 runs off 4 overs at 9 an over needs at least a few wickets . maybe he will get a tail ender but too late now . mcdonald and co were foolish with team selection again after India getting the better of the bowlers at scg twice in last two series there . plenty of evidence to select Richardson and another . let’s hope the rest of the team carries this selection. error and can go on and win the match . they need quick wickets this am so hopefully if starc does bowl he takes a couple promptly

have to agree with this the senior batsmen are the issue . even yesterday Konstas made more runs than three of them combined I think and kostas was wild . if kostas can tone it down with less silly risks he could be pretty special
