Getting a kid to pick up and read a piece of paper instead of staring at their phone I would think is impossible these days.

My thinking is Green was selected as Steve Waugh was, to shoulder some overs and give us some runs as an allrounder. Eventually Waugh pretty much gave up the bowling gig and turned into the 10k Test runs machine and leader he became.
Green is modelling as that sort of player.
It’s unlikely I will survive to see if this comes to fruition.

Every selection can be explained for whatever reason except for Abbott.
What is the intent here? Is he a development project player who they’re looking to blood toward seeing a long term place in the cartel? No, he’s not exactly a bolter.
Is he better than sending one of the incumbents who are not making the trip so we obliterate the Lankans? No, I can’t see him ripping them up with bat or ball.
There are better quicks out there, there are better allrounders out there if that is what the selection is about.

That trajectory he has works well on decks with carry and bounce. The action is better developed than a young Gary. If he delivers the same the ball in Sri Lanka the ball will sit up to be hit.
Take him along by all means if at all possible but I don’t think he’ll make the boat on this occasion. If they have dry conditions in SL now like the damp we are experiencing on the east coast of Australia fast bowlers will be superfluous and they stack the side with 4 spinners!
