Very good SCG 🙂
WAGs banned from team hotel, family time slashed and Gambhir’s manager told to get off the bus in bizarre BCCI review
Curiously Pant has not been selected for the T20 series against England in late January. Is this punitive internal politics or is he now considered a red ball specialist and his batting too conservative for T20?

So Smith is still averaging 50 in the final third, which includes taking one for the team to move to opener to find a way to shoehorn Green into the team precisely to support the generational change people are advocating. Even with Bumrah and the lively, seaming pitches this summer Smith is the third highest run scorer from both teams at 35 average, working really hard to find some form. I don’t really get the antagonism towards Smith that I keep seeing on Roar, he may not be at his peak but I still switch on to watch him bat in the hope of seeing something remarkable. The batting line up looked fragile for both teams this summer, and team India look to be having similar issues with aging batters.
Numbers don’t lie when it comes to the majority of Aussie Test team being in fading final phase of their career
Pre knee injuries he was a regular, established NRL first grader. In the PA (pre Api) season plenty of commentators had Douhi as one of the Tigers best, if not their best player. I remember one “professional” commentator claiming he was the only Tigers player worth retaining in any rebuild and would be the only player still in the team when the Tigers eventually turn it around and next play finals footy. But he was also a bit of a loudmouth smartarse on the field, a horrible run of injuries is not the way you want to see a bloke mature, but he sounds like this has been a character building period. It sure doesn’t sound like he is taking a career as a professional footy player for granted anymore.
Doueihi sets sights on positional switch after horror run of injuries
Knee injuries are horrible, they don’t feel stable for ages even after the swelling/fluid is gone and then it takes some time before you are willing to trust it. I did one ACL, one medial and tears/cartilage clean outs in both.
Knowing how much time and grief the rehab costs you, I cannot imagine how wary you’d be after three ACLs. No one deserves that. Id be happy to see AD and the Tigers have a bit of good fortune under Benji/Richo.

a “franchise player”… worth over $1m per season? Really? Regardless of his highlight reel, after watching Parra play I’m often left thinking “they really need more from Brown”. Ive been surprised before, but unless he has a career-best season in 2025 would a rival club really offer him a pay bump?

Well done Benji.
Benji's brutal 'wake-up call' rebuke credited for helping Tiger Fainu go from fat to fit
How is this a surprise? Isn’t this exactly why they were recruited by StG and coach Flanno?
'Fight for everything': Flanagan makes surprise call on Dragons captaincy
Were there memorable coaches of the Australian team before Simmo? Chappelli used to bang on about the captain needing to be the man in charge of the team and “coaching” being overrated. We seem to have gone through a cycle since sandpaper-gate of installing an earnest ex-player as coach, the senior players outgrowing him and wanting a lighter hand on the reins, and now it looks very much like it’s captain Pat’s team. Not only does he lead by example, he also looks very comfortable in the leadership role. Watching the Melbourne and Sydney tests, he gave plenty of on field support and encouragement to Starc when he was struggling with soreness. I really liked his use of Boland and Webster. He is a ripper. And… the three cricketing criticisms I am aware of are: firstly the short pitched bowling plans to stubborn tail enders (particularly when unsuccessful), which I admit to finding frustrating but they must have their reasons for these tactics. Secondly the perception of “conservative” declarations, but that’s just commentators looking for something to talk about – and we all know that the leadership group and the bowlers cartel are best placed to make an informed decision, so that’s just talk. Thirdly, that the fast bowlers cartel of Cummins/Starc/Hazelwood is too tight knit to enable any rotation over a crammed 5 test series when they appear to be tiring. This is a longer discussion, but will sort itself out through necessity with injuries to bowlers. I think there is a difference between genuine criticism vs commentators looking for repetitive issues to gas-bag about without having to think too hard. Cummins is an excellent cricketer and a genuine competitor. He now looks very Comfortable and competent in the leadership role. While we are there, so was Simmo as player, captain and coach.
Captain fantastic: Despite Australia's recent cricket success, fans don't fully appreciate what we have with Cummins
You forgot Nathan Hauritz.
Selectors slam door shut on four Test careers after finally looking to the future with new-look tour squad
It seemed to me that Maxwell passed every test and jumped through every hoop and was never forgiven for it by the selectors. I remember him proving himself as a proper test batsman and then being dropped without cause and dudded by the selectors ever after.

Agree Nat, and it’s not the first time the Titans have forgotten how good AJ is at fullback. And what an opportunity for JC to nail the number 6 role with the support of Foran and Hasler.
‘A fast learner’: Gordon surging towards NRL debut but there’s an obstacle in former Wallaby’s way
“Flanagan will give them a gameplan they can execute”… fully agree, this is clearly a strength of the experienced StG coach. I expect their on-field leadership to keep them focused on the game plan is improved with the recruitment of Gutho – BA regularly acknowledged Gutho for that at Parra.
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Dragons - half a headache for Flanagan to reach finals
For sure. Stating the obvious, it’s more likely that coach Flanno will work on a style that plays to Ilias’ strengths rather than shoehorn him into a Cody/Latrell support role.
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Dragons - half a headache for Flanagan to reach finals
Souths rated Ilias highly enough to let Reynolds go and every commentator wrote of him dominating NSW Cup. He deserved to be dropped at Souths, his short kicking went to hell and he lost confidence. And he has over 50 NRL games under his belt now and was reportedly coming back into the souths NRL team when he injured his leg. I am hoping that being dropped then the injury has given him time to reflect on his game and how he wants to play. I have high hopes for this young man and confidence in coach Flanno to get the best from him. But that’s just me hoping again as the new season approaches:)

We could stand to learn a thing or two from the cricket academy in Greece 🙂
'Kohli got caught in the corridor more than a school truant skulking off for a clandestine durry': The Liebke Report Card
This time last year plenty of articles and commentators were suggesting StG as wooden spoon candidates for 2024. That looks even less likely in 2025, but their season depends significantly on Ilias performance and absence of significant injury to halves. I have high hopes for Ilias, and you have to applaud StG for doing everything to address this with the recruitment of Atkinson for season 2026. I want to give a shout out to Jacob Liddle. I watched an early season game in season 2024 and his dummy half service was horrible, I don’t know what was going on that game because he was pretty good in the back half of the season. If StG plays him as 14 I guess he and Cook are also covering for any injury in the halves. I thought coach Fanno was excellent in 2024 and it’s difficult to see how they could have done better with recruitment for season 2025. Go Dragons.

'Would have loved to': Gavaskar hits out at trophy snub, Kohli's 'garbage' sandpaper sledge, Konstas savaged for 'almighty slog'
I thought Virat had plenty of opportunities to show real leadership and didn’t. But he made showy efforts in the field for the crowd to see him telling his captain and the team what they should be doing. His behaviour reminded me of the mob of men hanging around a minor vehicle collision anywhere in south Asia arguing about who was at fault and what they should have done. He wants to be seen as a leader, but he didn’t lead by example with his repeated flashing at wide ones well outside off stump. He is a living legend of Indian cricket and I was pleased for him when he scored his century, but he is not the leader team India needs.
Flem’s Verdict: Aussies have a Big Four with Boland no longer a back-up, SCG pitch not up to scratch and Beau knows Test cricket
Thankfully we’ve moved on from “body language”, but they are sticking strong on “showing intent”.

Day 5… what a dope 🙂
'Would have loved to': Gavaskar hits out at trophy snub, Kohli's 'garbage' sandpaper sledge, Konstas savaged for 'almighty slog'
“Kohli giving it”? Not with his batting. But he did field well. And was applauded and shown appreciation after his final innings by the SCG crowd.
'Would have loved to': Gavaskar hits out at trophy snub, Kohli's 'garbage' sandpaper sledge, Konstas savaged for 'almighty slog'
In the previous test the Indian quicks came back for a new spell and had a 54 to 60+ overs old ball swinging and seaming and bouncing like an old model Kookaburra that was only a few overs old. And it behaved like that for at least 8 or 10 overs. The new and improved model looks keen to talk for any new spell from a fresh quick. They look great to bowl with.

Sorry BG, I’ve just seen your comment below making the point that there are, ahem, “two different issues”. Ill just shut up now.

What is his manager smoking? Brown is reportedly on $1m per season until end of 2031… that’s a really good contract for Brown for 7 more seasons. Where is this coming from, is he really agitating to move, why is his agent putting him out there?
