If Hunt isn’t in SOO then you can’t have both Mahoney and Grant as they’re both specialist hookers without utility. Plath on the bench for me as he can cover lock, hooker and halves.
NRL News: London calling as Brisbane buy in, Hunt reflects on hometown return
If Phins signed Brown at $1m+ per season and with Katoa reportedly on $500k per season, if I were Katoa I’d be demanding a huge pay increase immediately as he should rightfully be earning more as halfback. Phins could definitely use a half like Brown but $500-$750k range or they’ll end up without the talent around their halves to win games.
Rival club emerges as Brown destination after manager tests open market for Eels star
Phins and Wahs would be on the lookout for a 6 as well, though there are bound to be many other clubs who would like to have Brown in their team.
'Leaked within minutes': Agent slams NRL clubs after Eels star shopped to rivals
Max Plath has potential to be a Brandon Smith 2.0 from Melb days, not roosters! His ability to come in and support at hooker or spark something from lock / roving forward should be something to see and could earn him a maroons jumper this year.
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Dolphins - Woolf hungry to win after Wayne’s exit, plenty of bite in new-look pack
Typo spotted “Reed Mahoney providing quality service from dummy-half and non-stop tackling” should read instead non-stop talking 😂
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Bulldogs - Sexton needs to kick on, wing up for grabs, rising star could be benched
I’m worried about the baggage on the tigers board
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Tigers - Centre, lock, second row up in the air but Benji's side looks like rising up ladder
Josh Schuster and food… 😂
Rating each NRL club’s spine: The usual heavyweights are strong again, but the wooden spooners could shock in 2025
I don’t think Bula is a lock for fullback long term, not saying he won’t but he should be looking over his shoulder (if he’s even chosen to start the year there). Turuva with his fullback abilities and Panthers link to Luai may be a consideration. He’s even listed on the wests tigers site as a fullback, not winger…

If the team are not scoring, I feel the following would make a more balanced and attacking team, utilising the strengths of each player much better than current line up – Wighton to 6, Trell to centre, Gray to fullback and Walker or Dodd in 7 (with the one missing out to reserves).
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Rabbitohs - Bennett faces major selection headaches, will new half work and can Latrell fire?
Maybe Schuster to prop, he should watch some AFB games to see how to be a ball playing front rower. Souths certainly need props more than back rowers.

Keeping depth is a worry. Who’s coming through under 25!? I’m sure close followers of shield and juniors may have some names, but every option listed above are a roughly 5 year option only.
Analysing Australia's depth chart: Ageing fast bowlers, all-rounders galore, Khawaja an open question, batting concerns
If Webster bats well throughout the SL tour then what about dropping Labs or Smith and have a bowling attack of a few overs from Webster, but mainly Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Bolo and Lyons. All these guys have shown they value their wicket and at least one of them can be expected to get 40 runs in an innings.
Flem’s Verdict: Aussies have a Big Four with Boland no longer a back-up, SCG pitch not up to scratch and Beau knows Test cricket
And every time the tigers fans look up, they get their hopes dragged back down by another fight (on field players unhappy ~ eg Stefano and Bateman or off field board room issues on repeat).
Could the NRL take over the administration as they did with Newcastle, set up a competent board and sell them on I wonder?

If Head is out then McSweeney would be my pick to play 5th drop… but it won’t happen as selectors have decided he’s an opener or nothing when his domestic career is 3rd to 5th drop, so well suited to taking Heads spot + he’s a future 10+ years player, not short term like Inglis and Webster
Another debutant could get MCG baptism of fire as hobbled Head races the clock
If they play Bolo then it could be Hazlewood all over again breaking down mid match and with Marsh under his own cloud then Webster has to be in the team if they risk playing with Bolo

If Jadeja having a chat with Ashwin made Ashwin decide to retire just a few hours later, could Jadeja talk to a few of the Aussies as well…
Precious and paranoid: Indian players don’t even trust each other as they treat fans and media with contempt
If Hazlewood calf troubles were noticed in warm up, do the rules allow Aus to replace him with Boland before the game started? If possible, that would have been sensible, especially with Marsh on reduced load and can’t be your backup to bowl 20+ overs!
All-rounder issue exposed with Hazlewood hobbled as last-wicket stand and Brisbane weather conspire against Aussies

With Marsh not bowling the second innings, another fast-medium bowler is required for Aus. However, most of our batters are not in form and dropping a batter for a bowler would be high risk. Perhaps an option still, depending on the Gabba pitch that is presented.
Unluckiest cricketer in the world: Aussies consider tough call on Boland with India set to send SOS for veteran star
Australia’s win was always Cummings, the quality difference this game was Starc to see and it was good to win by a Head over India 😁
'Back to how we want to play': Cummins five-for finishes off India as Aussies canter to comeback triumph, squared series
So Cummins says Hazlewood could bowl this test but shouldn’t as it could make his injury a 5 week layoff… yet the opposite applies to Marsh?
Boland back, big Marsh call confirmed as Aussies lock in second Test XI
AJ to me seems to have the size and engine to be a hooker or roving lock like Plath at Dolphins… so Sami and Carter to centre, AJ to utility bench role if I was selecting round 1.
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Titans - Des needs to settle on halves duo, where will ex-Wallabies star get a start?
