Well done Flanno.
I think Ilias will be a good signing for the dragons.
Still young, has enough experience under his belt with about 50 games and hopefully continues to improve.
He was made the scapegoat for the underperforming rabbits last season, but imo it was the bunnies forwards that were the main problem with their poor performances. A half never shines behind a well beaten pack, and to hang him with the blame was part of the problem at the bunnies.
Flanagan locks in Hunt replacement, Bunnies take punt on prop as Tigers tie up rising star
Gutho was playing busted for a good part of the season, but soldiered on because of the major injuries to Moses etc.
Hopefully a good off season to get his body right and he will be good to go round one.
Unfortunately there is slim pickings for quality players, but I think he is a good risk, he always gives it a red hot crack and the dragons need more players with his mindset.
Flanagan reveals May signing strategy, how rugby recruit fits in and Sloan’s surprising Gutho reaction
I like what Flanagan has done so far.
The experience of Cook and and Gutho will be important mentoring the young members of the group.
Hopefully he can jag either Ilias or Atkinson from the sharks in the halves and we might keep going in an upward direction.
The resigning of the twins is a great move, they will be our forward leaders in a couple of years.

Lachlan would look good in a red and white jersey.
Was made the scapegoat at souths early in the season when their whole squad was the problem imo

Totally agree Ken.
If we picked up a half like Lachlan Ilias, I’d be more than happy to let Hunt go.
Hunt is at the back end of his career, and unfortunately for me, he isn’t the greatest organizing half for the guys around him.
We’ve dropped too many games, like Saturday where we should have won and a lot of that comes on his shoulders, not all of it, some of the defensive efforts are deplorable by the whole side

Agree about the defence attitude and ability Andrew, and I also think we need to move on from Ben Hunt being our main focus in the halves.
The clock is well and truelly ticking on his career now and we need to recruit someone to steer them around into the future. Would love to get young kid like Galvin/Katoa or even Ilias into the mix somewhere.
I have faith that Flanno has a moving in the right direction, but he does need to offload a few passengers that we have at the moment.
As us dragons fans are accustomed to saying, oh well there’s always next year. At least we were in it up to eyeballs to the last round this year, something I didn’t think we would be at the start of the season and haven’t been for so long.
Five and a Kick: Cowboys emerge as finals dark horses with Dogs rout, Raiders pile on Dragons' misery, Panthers tighten up
Burton was a massive loss for the dogs last night. His kicking game has kept the dogs in many contests this year when they have been under the pump getting it out of your own end.
That and his replacement had an absolute shocker, and the mistakes in the first 20 minutes cost you guys badly when the game was in the balance. If the dogs scored early last night, and there was a couple of opportunities, we have a different ball game.
Full credit to the cowboys though, they put in their best performance of the year so far, in particular their defense.
Is JAC and cherri back next week?

As much as it pains me to say it, the Storm are definitely in the box seat.
The panthers are shaky this year, and if the sharks/roosters knock them over in week 1, I could see a dogs/sea eagles side giving them a run in week 2 if that eventuated.
Anything but a storm/panthers/roosters GF would be my wish, but I don’t think it will happen unfortunately.
I can’t believe I’m barracking for 2 of my biggest enemies, but anything for a bit of a change up from the last few years…
How NRL finals contenders stack up against each other: Dogs, Roosters inherit unwanted flat-track bullies title
Totally agree with that.
To me it’s crazy clubs shop players around that are contracted already for next season until the end of the season. It one way to disrupt team harmony midway through the current season.
Yes talk about it behind closed doors if your chasing someone and need to offload them to get your new recruit, but to tell the players and let it leak in public sets you up for failure and shows that the back office isn’t united.
It also shows the stupidity of these long contracts, 2-3 years max, with options to extend on performance basis would be the way to go imo.
You’re only a Sam Walker fetlock snap away from disaster in an instant. Sam’s rolled the dice by holding off, and I bet he regrets it now.
Even if Knights get lucky to make finals it'll only mask deeper issues at under-achieving club
Dragons v eels really worries me as a saints fan. When we are expected to win, we usually dish up an ordinary performance.
Hopefully the “good” fortnightly dragons turn up this weekend to continue the season pattern

Five and a Kick: Savage Sharks devour Dragons, Roosters rise to second by thrashing Titans but JWH's a liability
Dragons have left the door open, and after today’s inept performance, will probably end up finishing 10th, where in all honesty they belong. One week on, one week off doesn’t cut it in the NRL
I know they are not alone, but footy basics just aren’t there with the majority of their players, which is a sad indictment for professional footballers. When your defensive line is passive , or moving backwards all game, you can’t expect to stop the opposition’s momentum.
The lack of direction in attack is appalling and that rests with Ben Hunt. Outplayed by a 20 year old with 10 games experience, happens way too often with the coin he is on

Hopefully “big brother “ puts them away tomorrow.
I’m loving the end of season shoot outs, people supporting teams they usually hate, as teams look for top 4 or 8 positions.
All doggies fans will be backing the dragons, dolphins and broncos supporters will be on the sharks.
Tomorrow’s result is so important for about 4/5 teams, whether it be a possibility of a top 4 spot, or keep their chances of making the 8 alive.
Hopefully the good dragons turn up in the gong tomorrow.
Sharks have become big brother in derby rivalry … but sleeping giant Dragons ready to roar to life
Maybe we are starting to show our vintage. Next we won’t know any of the music they are playing either lol
Scrap NRL Grand Final entertainment - use the money where needed, or keep pace with the AFL?
I used to like Sweet Caroline, but now absolutely hate it as it on the Jim Beam ads on fox more than Joel Caine giving odds, and you hear it in the background at every game.
I must be getting old, because I hate the music/screaming ground announcers at the footy/cricket. Just play the friggen game, 10 mins of talking with your mates about the first half and negotiating your way to the trough is enough half time entertainment for me.

The amount of times this year you see an obstruction, and the attacking team gets cut down short of the line and the ref starts moving the whistle to the mouth but stops as they don’t score, then 2 plays later they go over and all is good. The amount of inconsistency calling them is so frustrating.
Barrett was right on that last try, Martin takes out 2 defenders, but because it was 60m out, the bunker after having a long look at it, support their mate in the middle as they do 95% of the time, even if it is blatantly wrong. Same as with the strip tonight about 15 mins earlier.
Blow it up, I’m happy to live with the 10% human error from the man with the whistle, but can’t cope with the incompetence from the numpties in the bunker.
'Cost us the game, shouldn't have been a try': Barrett blasts ref bias after late four-minute Panthers blitz breaks Eels hearts
I said last time they played, whoever won that game would make the 8.
Now if the dogs win the probably go close to top 4 and certainties for the 8, if the dragons win, hopefully both make it.
Who would have thought that at the start of the year? Most were tipping saints for the spoon
NRL Round 22 Talking Points: Upsets abound, Crichton the beast - and why are you complaining about Olam's send-off?
Looking forward to a see of red and white at Kogarah this weekend, hopefully both teams bring their A game, should be a cracker
NRL Round 22 Talking Points: Upsets abound, Crichton the beast - and why are you complaining about Olam's send-off?
Harry is definitely still carrying that sternum injury, his body position in defence looks awkward as he is trying to protect it.
Paps is understandable, coming back from the horror injuries he has had. It takes a couple of years to get back to peak confidence in your body (if you ever reach it again). Justin Hodges was similar after doing his knee but got there after a couple of seasons.
Five and a Kick: Dragons deserve to make finals after Storm upset, Sharks shaky despite win and Kevvie’s on borrowed time
A great win today by the dragons, but we need to keep putting out this kind of performance week in week out for the next 5 weeks.
A massive win in terms of making the 8, as no one pencilled in todays 2 points, and results so far this round have fallen our way, just need the dogs to beat Canberra and the knights to fall to the panthers and it is a perfect round for our 8 aspirations.
Broncos, rabbits and warriors can start planning their end of season trips.
Hopefully the dragons get a lot of self belief out of today, because they are going to need it over the next 5 rounds, and need to reverse their one week on, one week off attitude they have had so far this season.
Dogs next week will be another massive hurdle, a win there and more results going our way next week to cross off a couple of other contenders , we could well complete the Bradbury and play in September.

Yeah I get that, but surely their cap must be pretty full. Maybe we can chase To’o instead if the rumors on Fox last night are true….

And defence has been Saints biggest issue for over a decade.
Scoring points hasn’t been a problem, even without Hunt I dont see us having a problem getting enough points to win, it’s how many we leak….
Without Flanagan the last few weeks of last season, they played touch footy, at least he shows plenty of grit in that area and Ilias is a a solid defender aswell.
The defence out wide is embarrassing and with these 2, and Gutho and Holmes, hopefully we can leave turnstiles like the Feagai bros and Sloan in Reggie’s.
