Here’s how the Penrith players rated in Sunday night’s grand final.

1. Dylan Edwards: Rolled out his usual great positioning. A couple of blues but made up for it, especially with the first contact on that controversial ‘held up’ call. 7/10

2. Sunia Turuva: Set his shoulder to the wheel with a stack of tough carries. Scored the Panthers’ first try to finish a great team move down the left. 205 metres, so much work. 7/10

3. Izack Tago: Got through a lot of defensive work, on the scene to cut down more than a few Storm attacks. Was key to a massive late play forcing Jack Howarth over the sideline. 8/10

4. Paul Alamoti: Played his role to perfection. It was quiet but it was effective and he scored the 62nd minute try that gave a match winning gap. I thought he was really good. 8.5/10

5. Brian To’o: The usual To’o outing – brutal runs, compiling many many metres in his role as the ‘wing forward’. 7.5/10

6. Jarome Luai: Was really dangerous with the ball in hand – very alert, shifted the Storm defence around and was his usually ‘cheeky’ self when it was needed. 8.5/10

7. Nathan Cleary: Ran the ball and engaged the defence a lot more than expected. The Storm didn’t know how to adapt and Cleary racked up 205 metres from 28 carries. Kicking game was also magnificent keeping the Storm pinned down their end. 9/10

8. Moses Leota: Did his work, but it was the back five who carried the bulk of the metres. Was solid in defence. 6/10

9. Mitch Kenny: Great tackle to stop a possible Hughes try, just part of his fantastic defending all night. He mixed that with good service that gave Cleary and Luai time with the ball. 8/10

10. James Fisher-Harris: Made his runs count and was really important in defence in the game’s last 15. Kept his team on the front foot and he leaves the club having given his all. 8.5/10

19: Scott Sorensen: Plugged in and did the role Ivan Cleary asked of him, including some smart work to make a play from the kickoff after scoring. 7.5/10

12. Liam Martin: The Clive Churchill medallist was his typical self all over the field – got badly wrong footed for the game’s first try, but made up for it with his own try on halftime and then great play off a bomb to set up the decisive score. He was great. 9.5/10

13. Isaah Yeo: The best on the field for mine. Consistent and dangerous in the first half, then repeated the dose in the second. Ran for an astounding 233 metres and made 45 tackles. 10/10

14. Brad Schneider: Was there to cover if Cleary’s shoulder didn’t hold up, but Cleary’s shoulder held up. Didn’t set foot on the field.

15. Lindsay Smith: Was a great injection of power and energy when he came on. Plenty of strength with the ball and dragged defenders with him every run. 7/10

16. Liam Henry: Only played half an hour but did what was asked of him. 5/10

11. Luke Garner: Filled out the left side to cover when To’o went off. A quiet contribution but as all Panthers do, Garner did his job. 6/10
