Shane Flanagan has continued his recruitment drive at St George Illawarra, signing halfback Lachlan Ilias on a two-year deal.
Once touted as South Sydney’s next big hope in the halves, Ilias eventually fell out of favour at the Rabbitohs and was dropped from first grade, before suffering a nasty season-ending injury playing for the NSW Cup side when Freddy Lussick got a charge-down attempt horribly wrong.
Ilias joins the likes of Valentine Holmes and Clint Gutherson in a new-look Dragons side for 2025 as the Red V look to rebound from another season outside the top eight.
Flanagan said in a club statement released on Monday the playmaker’s recovery is on track, and he will be raring to go for pre-season.
“It’s fantastic to have Lachlan join us at the Dragons,” Flanagan said.
“He is coming into the best years of his career. His skill set complements our current squad and he joins the exciting group of players we have recruited ahead of the 2025 season.
“He is progressing well through his rehab and he will be ready to go for the trials. Lachlan joins a squad that is working hard and are committed to an improved 2025.
“We can’t wait for him to rip in with us.”
