I would be looking closely at Brown and pay him well for 2 years. He knows he can do better and that a longer contract would be for a lot less. I think this player has way more to give and could be part of a premiership team. A change of club might just inspire him to realise his full potential. He can play

I guess it’s a selling point to convince them to sign initially. Once that happens they obviously think they can provide an environment whereby the player would never want to action the clause.

Yep – seems he could earn a fatter cheque in Super League but he wants to stay here with his young family. That would be the same family that his fast fading career relies on for dosh. I wonder if he has even consulted the mother of his children to arrive at that decision. Perhaps he did and she said “No Anthony, we couldn’t possibly manage without you. Stay home and get paid heaps less so we can kiss you goodnight (when you’re home).” Also, “we couldn’t possibly live in Blighty for a couple of years while you make some coin. It’s so grey and cold….”

I expect that would be in his and other players contracts as to behaviour that damages the brand (the club). I expect that the NRL would insist on clubs having policies and processes that deal with this sort of thing in the interest of the sport.
Whether he gets paid or not would be part of that.
Having said that, most (but certainly not all) people can have traffic or criminal indiscretions in their life without repercussions from their employer. For many, their employer wouldn’t even know and to be fair it may have very little to do with one’s work.
