I’d say that not taking it upon yourself, and to not abide to club requirements, is a major flaw in someone’s character. He obviously has little or no self discipline, I wouldn’t call that something that’s easy to change. What else would be expected from him after copping the toe where it rightly belonged? He probably realised he isn’t going to be a starting half this year, and his attitude towards requirements wasn’t a very good indicator of his commitment.

Fat boy slims down: Rising star ready to deliver for Tigers after Benji 'gave it to me straight' over fitness concerns

Regardless of how good a footballer he is made out to be, he should be restricted to only playing NSW cup. The attitude he has shown already, returning unfit or fat, after being told what the expectations were over the off season, won’t cut it at any club. If he thought Luai was only going there for the pay packet he surely misjudged him, Luai is a ferocious competitor with an enormous winning attitude, he won’t cop incompetence. Benji will definitely be relying on the Luai influence.

I still have the memory of that year also when Kikau turned him from being the hard man into a marshmallow.

Maybe Golden boot should only be awarded after the world cup? That way all contenders have the opportunity to play against all others, rather than the two others you mentioned, especially HF.

Who brought you up?

I’m being no D..k Bud, wake up and smell the roses. The ones you have mentioned are only there because the NRL allowed them to still be playing. Morally should they still be playing?.. probably not, but all your saying is that because they still are, it’s ok for Mam to be.. cancel yourself from any judicial appointments, please do it for society.

Xerri was paid nothing by the NRL while he served his suspension. He did 4 years on the sidelines working the same way that Mam is supposedly doing. The NRL need to step up here and ban him from the game, as its the NRL’s money paying him for his contract. It wasn’t costing the NRL a cent while Xerri wasn’t playing.

Guess what so will I.. there aren’t many Bulldogs supporters or Roosters supporters trying to support what JAC or Smith did, JAC got sacked by the bulldogs for a LOT LESS harm than Mam did. The Broncos need to sack Mam to set a precedent, show some intestinal fortitude, be the champions they and your like believe they are. Gutless organisation.

Another stupid comment by a heartbroken bronco supporter. If it happened to any other so called star that finished over the movie star broncs this year, it would be different words getting spewed. Laughable.

Please elaborate.. your statement is ludicrous, name the players, otherwise see that hole.. climb into it.

Ever thought Mam broke the law driving unlicensed and had an accident, injuring innocent people who were very unlikely to be under the influence of an ” illegal” substance, and he was quite possibly on his way to score from his regular dealer, and in doing so he was assisting the dealer in his flourishing business? Is that not as logical as to what you are saying?

Which players have donned jumpers after doing “far worse” and what could possibly have been “far worse”?

You may have never tried to defend him in the past, but you seem to be trying really hard with what you’re saying. The courts will hit him with a feather duster, probably get a fine and his licence suspended for a period of time, which in his case that won’t matter to him because he doesn’t believe he needs one anyway. It’s the NRL’s responsibility to make an example of him, the 12 weeks spoken about is nowhere near enough. I hope the financial penalties he should receive via compensation and lack of insurances send him bankrupt.

At Ponga’s age now do you think he would even make the all black team? He hasn’t played the game for near on 10 years. In the end he wasn’t even picked to play for the kangaroo’s and would have to play union for a time to even be in contention to wear the jumper. He isn’t earning the money he is now if he transitioned back to union. I’m very sceptical of the whole situation, and I feel sorry for Newcastle and their supporters, his response to not wanting to play for Australia in league, or should I say excuse, doesn’t cut it.

Six years since being destined for greatness, Kalyn Ponga has never been further from a Kangaroos jersey

Plus Ponga isn’t earning that type of money playing union in NZ.

You know his manager is his father..right? Not sure if you saw the story where his father basically said playing for the All Blacks is the ultimate for anyone. While Kaylan is sucking the life out of Newcastle’s salary cap and by doing so is setting himself and his parents up for life back in NZ, there is no way he would tarnish his (or father’s) heritage for playing for the kangaroos. SOO is OK, get the money and it doesn’t affect his heritage and who he wants to play for internationally. He will bleed Newcastle for every penny for the length of his contract, say two more years and maybe 3, 4 million dollars probably, nice earner for them to return home with. The ARU would offer him that amount to play I’d imagine, but he hasn’t played union for many years, plus his dad would never let that happen anyway.

I dont know that playing for Australia, in being a part of his contract obligations, would have been in small print. It appears that his manager from what I’ve seen and heard isn’t into the idea one bit. And I’m sure that the NRL and Meninga didn’t take to kindly to the nature of the manager’s comments as to where their allegiance lies. In reality ponga’s committal to win a premiership with Newcastle was a weak excuse for not being available, because in all reality that’s a very slim chance of happening. In all essence he made a call for himself and the misguided influence of Andre, and not making the team after declaring himself available may have deflated a couple of ego’s. Meninga and the ARL called his bluff, well done!

I think the fact that JFH and Luai having their last games for Penrith is being highly underestimated. Their forward leader and their spiritual leader, not thinking that the side isn’t going to lift for this game is nonsensical. The Storm pack are in for the hardest game they have ever played in and have too many that aren’t experienced in this type of game. Looking at the teams, Penrith have 181 finals games amongst them, Storm 114 and most of the difference coming in grand final experience. There’s plenty of chatter on whether Cleary will be targeted, there are a few in the Melbourne team who have heavy targets on them also. The latest press conferences have shown which team is confident in how the game will play out, while the other has shown how nervous they are, and that will transfer into the early battles up front. If your not making ground from your own end then it gets pretty hard getting field position, and applying any pressure. I can’t see the Storm getting in too many good positions for a kick and using the advantage of their tall wingers. It should be a really good game, but under the circumstances of the JFH and Luai situation, Penrith will win this game.

Not at all awful for rugby league, the exact opposite. Other clubs know where they need to get to, to be competitive.
