an old-fashioned take the young bloke on tour for the experience selection, he’s definitely got plenty of batting potential
Aussies surely can’t repeat churn and burn McSweeney mistake with Konstas if Head goes to opener
Dylan Brown needs the Ted Lasso to Jamie Tartt speech … Hey. If you can’t practice, you can’t practice. If you’re hurt, you’re hurt. It’s as simple as that. But it ain’t about that… at all. You’re sitting in here, you’re supposed to be the franchise player. And yet here we are, talking about you missing practice. We’re talking about practice. You understand me? Practice. Not a game. Not a game, not the game you go out there and die for, right? Play every weekend like it’s your last, right? No, we’re talking about practice, man! Practice! You know you’re supposed to be out there. You know you’re supposed to lead by example. You’re just shoving that all aside. And so here we are, Jamie. We’re talking about practice. Not a game. Not the game. We’re talking about practice, with your team. With your teammates. The only place we get to play together, we got control over. Rest of the time, it’s us eleven against those eleven. We’re talking about practice, man! I’m talking about practice! And you can’t do it, ’cause you’re “hurt”! Right? It’s fine by me. Tell you what, do me a favor. When you get out there, set up the cones so the other reserves can do a little passing drill.
Contract circus boosts Brown’s bank balance but could be costly to reputation of wannabe 'franchise player'
winning is important but future planning needs to be priority 2, not ignored by the selectors because they dont want to tell ageing stars their time is up
Ageing ODI side worse than Aussie Test team when it comes to futureproofing - Konstas should be put on fast track
d’oh, the red ones not the green ones!
Ageing ODI side worse than Aussie Test team when it comes to futureproofing - Konstas should be put on fast track
you dont have to apologise Big G. My main gripe is that there has been little to no turnover to the first-choice squad since the World Cup apart from if a player decides to retire. Smith and Labuschagne should have been replaced permanently long ago to focus on Tests, Stoinis’ spot should surely go to a younger all-rounder and Hazlewood and Starc are at an injury prone age for fast bowlers and the wear and tear is showing. They need to step aside or be told to do so for their own good (and more importantly, the long-term good of the team)
Ageing ODI side worse than Aussie Test team when it comes to futureproofing - Konstas should be put on fast track
Inglis got the leap on him at the World Cup and although he didn’t do too much individually, the team got on a winning roll and he is now considered the first-choice keeper for both white-ball teams
Ageing ODI side worse than Aussie Test team when it comes to futureproofing - Konstas should be put on fast track
TBF to Marsh he has done well in ODIs the past couple of years, Carey is probably only in this squad in case of an Inglis injury

to be fair those English umpires loved to trigger their own batters when they were trapped in front by Alderman’s in-ducker in 81 & 89. They lived by the adage of the bat is in your hand to be used, anything slightly coming back in that hit the pad to someone not playing a shot was more often than not given out
OK, Bumrah: Indian star stupendous against Aussies but not the greatest of all time by a visiting bowler
Stood himself down during that series because the Smiling Assassin had such a hold on him
OK, Bumrah: Indian star stupendous against Aussies but not the greatest of all time by a visiting bowler
was out hooking in both innings to Hadlee … the old master laid the trap and he fell right into it
OK, Bumrah: Indian star stupendous against Aussies but not the greatest of all time by a visiting bowler
It has made a massive difference but TBH, Hadlee probably would have had more wickets (or got them quicker) with the DRS option for when local umpires turned down LBW appeals … a lot of bowlers from past generations were dudded when they toured another country
OK, Bumrah: Indian star stupendous against Aussies but not the greatest of all time by a visiting bowler
Thought it was Botham but it was actually Gooch!

bizarre to think that the current Test team has no one in their 20s
Selectors slam door shut on four Test careers after finally looking to the future with new-look tour squad
Cummins’ shelf life is probably a lot shorter than Head’s even though they are a similar age and there’s a world where the batter takes over as skipper at 32-33 for a few years while the bowler remains in the team as a senior pro … or Cummins could be a combination of Allan Border and James Anderson and captain for the next decade!

Correct you are – the SL and perhaps Windies trips are a huge opportunity for Kuhnemann and Murphy to show they can be the two spinners that the Aussies can rely on after Lyon

Cameron Green said the plan was that he was going to open this summer until he needed back surgery. He should come back in the top order when he’s fit, opening up a middle-order slot for Webster or McSweeney, which should mean Khawaja’s retirement plan is brought forward

For a couple of weeks
Test Mortem: Aussies need to make two key changes, MCG pitch perfect, ban bails by-play and Pant’s too high for India
This is why you became a doctor at 15, Doogie
Test Mortem: Aussies need to make two key changes, MCG pitch perfect, ban bails by-play and Pant’s too high for India
The selectors tried to claim last week that dumping McSweeney was an example of them making a tough call. He’s a 3-Test player who didn’t get many runs. The definition of an easy decision. Marsh should not be playing at SCG not just based on recent form but overall career pattern of inconsistency
Test Mortem: Aussies need to make two key changes, MCG pitch perfect, ban bails by-play and Pant’s too high for India
Inglis strained his calf while sub fielding for Starc in the 1st innings

He can remember. And he still thinks he can be that player. He is not.
Test Mortem: Aussies need to make two key changes, MCG pitch perfect, ban bails by-play and Pant’s too high for India
the other, other option the Aussies could consider is to stack the batting because they only need a draw to regain the trophy, like when they played Cameron Green as a fourth bowler in the 4th Ashes Test last year

What Ben said. Sangakkara is an all-time great, Brendon McCullum was very good too but they didn’t keep on keeping their entire career
