Collingwood have always imploded after premiership wins. I am concerned that we will be in the wilderness for some time. This coming year does not look too bright bearing in mind that we need between six and eight players to kick start a mini rebuild. If 2025 goes as we all feel it will, there will be a massive overhaul on the cards next year with stalwarts retiring and the exit door congested with outgoings. Watch this space…

Pies get Houston after Port finally agrees to same MEGA trade they initially rejected - here's why the Power changed their stance

I like your namecalling. It is so devoid of football analysis. The Colliwobbles were a direct result of not recruiting midfielders, key forwards and rovers. That’s why they got beaten time and time again under in huge finals under Robert Rose, Neil Mann and Tom Hafey. Now, there seems to be a repeat going on here. The last four. and even the last six, have had the best midfield combinations in the land. Why do you think Petracca wants to leave Melbourne? Hawthorn were lucky to get as close as they did and they are crying out for a key forward. Please up your journalism and stop bagging Collingwood or using media devised Collingwood epíphets for all and sundry. By the way, we need a mammoth rebuild to get where we were. Three years in the wildereness in my opinion.

Finals Fix: How the Giants butchered their season with the greatest choke since the Colliwobbles

We need to groom the next crop of generational talent. No doubt at least eight new players are needed to fill glaring needs. Two defenders, two ruck men, two midfielders and two forwards. Then the other two or three spots ought to be filled by flankers with height and pace. Loads of work awaits the recruiting staff and the coaching panel.

Footy Fix: Watch out, 2025 - Fly's Pies have plenty of fire left in them

Poor trade without any real benefit to the Maggies. They have lost class, bite and cheekiness with his departure. I think we can also throw in a few goals to the above assessment, too. Schultz has scored 22 goals from 18 matches and Ginnivan has scored 23 from the same number of games.

How the Ginnivan trade cost Collingwood finals in 2024

Melbourne’s big three are looking ever so likely to miss out on the finals. I felt that this would be the case last week, but this week’s results have confirmed my suspicions. Hawthorn to sneak in seems very real. Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon have their work cut out in the off season.

Six Points: Don't write off the Blues just yet, and is anyone else starting to feel sorry for Essendon?

There is an issue that remains overlooked, and it goes to the crux of the loss. Collingwood scored four behinds between the two Bobby Hill goals late in the third quarter. Any of those could have guaranteed the win quite comfortably. The worst miss was Sidebottom’s which very close to goal and not taken seriously enough. These mistakes come back to haunt you one way or another. No need to comment on umpiring when your star players are not fully focused…

Correction: the two Australian hockey teams conceded more goals (5) than any other nation. Poor and outdated coaching methods…

By the way, statistics don’t lie. Didn’t the Australian Women’s Hockey team concede more goals than any of the other fifteen quarter finalists in the sport?

Quarter finals produce upsets in all sports. Football, tennis and cricket are perfect examples of this. These ladies need to look at where things are going wrong. Winning the group stages is far different to playing in knockout rounds. Coaching seems to be an issue, and mental toughness might need to be addressed. Leave the refereeing aside and go to the real issue. This can´t be happening time and time again without there being some substantial issues of concern.

The loss of key players on Saturday and the drop in form would be a cause for concern for the Blues.

Pies' worst fears confirmed as scans on Jordan De Goey hamstring injury arrive

Playing the bluebaggers brings out the best in inner city rivalry. The two teams with the greatest followings and the most fervent supporters of all walks of life always put on a show and never fail to impress. This was no exception to the rule; however, neither side according to my ladder predictor will make the finals, so savour the moment football purists! And, I also have the other fortress missing out, too. Sorry Moonee Ponds! Wouldn’t it be lovely to have these three titans battling it out year in year out? We all need to address deep-rooted onfield issues-the personnel is not up to it. Blue, Maggies and Dons-you’ve got loads of work to do in the off season. So, De Goey’s injury is irrelevant to our onfield destiny…We won’t add to our finals appearances record. Brisbane will get the job done and Footscray will cause everyone September headaches/migraines.

That’s a facade,

Footy Fix: Forget the future, the Hawks are September bound NOW... and God help anyone in their way

I have never seen any football team with so many incidents of concussion week in week out. What seems to be the problem these days? Are the woods being targeted by other clubs? Are the umpires being too lenient towards head high contact? It is an outrageous situation which has cost two players their careers this year and there are fix or six under a cloud. A contact sport has become an A&E. When is this going to stop? There won’t be any footballers interested or left in five years’ time.

Footy Fix: Forget the future, the Hawks are September bound NOW... and God help anyone in their way

It’s the end of an era. If Buckley had been more adventurous in his team selections, we could have been crowned premiers in 2018 and made the Grand Final in 2019 which would have made the garden look much rosier than it is. This is going to be a long rebuild with eight-to-ten-star players required to replace the loyal stayers of the past seven or so years. By the way, the hard calls involving Treloar, and company have proven over time to be wiser decisions than the pundits had predicted back then. Now, it’s a case of doing the same thing once again. However, this time the treatment has to be more radical than back then. The patient is terminally ill…

The Pies are cooked for 2024. Here's what they need to do next

Impossible is the word!

Footy Fix: Forget the future, the Hawks are September bound NOW... and God help anyone in their way

I can’t see us winning another game till the end of the season. Perhaps a few good draft picks and smart trading will see us rise a couple of notches next year. Patience lads.

Footy Fix: Forget the future, the Hawks are September bound NOW... and God help anyone in their way

Collingwood has reached the end of the road with their current personnel. Rebuild required just as the Hawks have done in recent times.

Footy Fix: Forget the future, the Hawks are September bound NOW... and God help anyone in their way

The one thing that most football pundits overlook is that last year’s flag was the end of an era. The same thing happened at Geelong the year before. There needs to be a massive clear-out similar to the one Hawthorn embarked upon three years ago. Moreover, Geelong started their own rebuild last year, as well. The Maggies need eight new faces in the four key areas of the ground. As I have said previously, two defenders, two midfielders, two forwards and two ruckmen. There are players that need to be traded and hard calls have to be made. Salary cap space needs to be freed up and a Treloar situation might reoccur for the good of the club. Pendlebury, Mitchell, Sidebottom, De Goey, Cox, Cameron, Mihocek, Elliott, Hoskin-Elliott and Howe need to be replaced. AFL is a young man’s game as Hawthorn and Sam Mitchell have proven today. And, one last thing that nobody should forget is Nathan Murphy’s brave and fearless contribution to Collingwood’s rise up the ladder in 2022 and 2023. Players like that are hard to find; he lifted team morale and saved the backline from embarrassment time and time again. The off season is going to be monumental for Collingwood if they get it right.

'More likely to miss the finals than win one': Collingwood are no dynasty team, and reality has caught up with them

Carlton have got six games remaining to restore their form and prestige in this year’s competition. I can see them winning four of those games which will give them a total of 15 wins or sixty points which is what is usually needed for a top four finish. If they manage to remain in the top 4 then September will determine how good Voss is as a coach. He’s only been there two and bit seasons which is not that long if you’re expecting a premiership. Any coach who can win a flag in the first five years of his tenure is doing pretty well. Besides, where are these coaching alternatives in the AFL? Is there an abundance of coaches in a country with a population of 26 million? Why don’t you cast an eye to England and the Premier League? Chelsea couldn’t get anyone this year while Southgate has been crucified by social media for the last eight years; nevertheless, the English FA will retain him regardless of today’s result. Manchester United conducted a review and embarrassingly retained Erik Ten Hag. Why? There aren’t that many outstanding coaches/managers out there or very few indeed. Get a grip on reality!!!!!

Six Points: We need to talk about Vossy, and the worst dog act of 2024 deserves six weeks

Collingwood need a rebuild and have not looked up to it since the beginning of the season. I insist that at least eight key players are needed, and the rest is pure nonsense. The team that won last year’s flag was the culmination of an era. The game that really confirmed that was the loss to the Bulldogs on Friday May 31st. They have been playing by memory rather than doing things as and when required. Pendlebury, Elliott, Sidebottom, Cox, Mihocek, Mitchell, Hoskin-Elliott, Cameron, Howe and De Goey are all approaching the end of the road in football terms, and we had better acknowledge that before we hit an all-time low. The retirements of Carmichael and Murphy have also meant a couple more spots could be filled by new recruits. All in all, ten to fifteen players will need to come through the door in the off season and some hard decisions await the recruiters and management team.

Footy Fix: Fly's Pies' bizarre plan to topple Cats worked for a half - and perfectly sums up their fall from grace

Oh, I forgot to add Darcy Cameron to the above.

Pies' worst fears confirmed as Mihocek's shoulder injury fate revealed, but better news for teammates

Basically, our Christmas Shopping Wish List should consist of two ruckmen, two defenders, two midfielders and two forwards.

Pies' worst fears confirmed as Mihocek's shoulder injury fate revealed, but better news for teammates

Collingwood’s season is as good as over. I can’t see them making a fist of the premiership defence and have felt that way since early April. It’s time to recruit and rebuild from the bottom up again. You can’t rely on ageing, injury-prone, slow stars any longer. Pendlebury, Elliott, Cox, Howe, Sidebottom and Mihocek all need replacing. But, the one guy that is and will be the hardest of all to replace is fearless Nathan Murphy. The team are also missing the exploits of Beau McCreery. All in all, we have a lot of work to do, and titles are not on our agenda and won’t be for some time.

Pies' worst fears confirmed as Mihocek's shoulder injury fate revealed, but better news for teammates

No real surprises in the selections. I wonder if Collingwood should have named John Noble in the starting line-up. He has played consistently well over the last four years. He must be terribly disappointed to be among the emergencies.

AFL grand final teams: Lions' Payne-ful call on defender, Pies make shock sub call

Congratulations lads for tonight’s efforts. I am a bit concerned about McStay’s injury. Is it a knee or ankle? Will we opt for Billy Frampton or Nathan Kreuger? I wouldn’t mind throwing either of them into defence or attack. Perhaps Jeremy Howe can take a few close to goal and give some impetus to the firing line. What are your thoughts gentlemen? Height and agility required?

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness
