Shaw was overworked last year, due to an injury plagued defensive line. Williams and Wilson are massive losses. We have enough young talent to absorb it though. Davis and Shaw will keep the line in order and Buntine and Kennedy are progressing nicely on return from the ACL nightmare of the first 6 weeks of last season.
Haynes also proved last year that has the pace and match awareness to rebound and move into the midfield when necessary. He can also move all the way forward and kick goals if needed as he played there in his junior years.
Anyway. Who knows?
We are going to lose most of our midfield talent to other states by the end of next season. If a flag is ever going to happen it’ll need to be this year or next. Otherwise a long rebuild is ahead of us.

The players each team can least afford to lose in 2018
From a GWS perspective, there are higher risks based on contact expiry.
Phil Davis and Toby Greene are both set to have contracts expire by seasons end.
Can’t see either leaving but I also expected Wilson & Smith to stick around prior to the start of last season.
Shaw is probably going to retire but has said in multiple interviews he will sign a one year extension if his body is up to it.

This social media hate has caused me to unfollow a lot of AFL related pages.
Some pages had memes equating Hannah to a dog being allowed to play.
It all needs to stop.

Great article. As a Parra fan I believe this can work. Hayne can play anywhere in the back three, personally I think he should shift onto the wing. However, he really does need to fall back down to earth and realise that he will be 30 next year and that he is not exactly as hot a prospect as he was 5 years ago.
I think if we can get him to conform to being a team player the decision has a potential to pay off.
I remember that crazy run in the 2009 season. I went to every final. The turning point was when we get destroyed by St. George at Kogarah and then beat them in that first final from eighth place. Hayne was the player of the finals that year.
Also, on a fun side note, my mum teaches Brad Arthur’s daughter. Any questions you want me to get her to ask him?

I agree on Tasmania getting a team, 100%. I was down in Launceston for the Giants v Hawks game mid season and the dedication and presence of the locals was incredible.
I would be very interested to see if the Hobart and Launceston, would give up their allegiance to the Kangaroos and Hawks, respectively.

A couple of things:
Did you think the same way about the progress of the club in 2013 when they only won one game? I don’t remember reading one article about the quality of the side brewing in the slightest bit prior to 2016.
Clearly your gripe is with the AFL and not the Giants.
In relation to your point regarding them being the least likely to win of the four clubs remaining, you are probably right. But I have no problem falling back on the argument of our injuries this season. The lineup has been different literally every round of the season.

I’m in a similar boat to you mate. I lived in Melbourne for 3 years when I was a kid for dad’s work. I also liked the Bombers, just because all the kids I hung out with supported them, but my parents were more into league so I never got right into it. I started supporting GWS, mostly to support the game in the area I lived in.
Thanks for you comments. I’m hoping that it is a Crows v Giants grand final this year. Despite what the ladder said, i feel as though we both had the most consistent seasons this year.

I’m not talking about Sydney fans so much. I’m talking more about the AFL media in general. Every podcast, article, or news report never gives them any respect. All anyone has said this week is that the game against the Eagles was rubbish to watch and that they had a low crowd. How about the stellar midfield performances or the fact that our mojo is back. Hopefully we can give the Tigers a red hot crack.

I can name plenty of examples of being hissed at by Swans fans, especially when being inside the SCG members stand at the Sydney derby earlier this year.
I think my favourite encounter was with two of my best friends at the Qualifying final last year against the Swans. When Lachie Whitfield kicked that goal from the centre of the goal square. We were front row centre behind the goals. Let’s just say they weren’t smiling after.
Pre game they described that Qualifying final as a minor speed hump toward their premiership.
I’m from Sydney and I grew up in the west. I’ll admit I originally started supporting them just so I could watch AFL matches without cheering for the red and the white.
