Transitioning American football players who haven’t made it to the NFL faces significant challenges. These athletes specialize in specific positions from their school days onward—offense, defense, or special teams. Converting them into versatile rugby players who must tackle, run, pass, and sometimes engage in scrums or kicks presents a formidable task. Several years ago, a college rugby coach in Oregon attempted such a transformation, investing countless hours in coaching these players, but achieved limited success.

'Nonu means nothing to them': The USA has been selling rugby the wrong way - this is how the 2031 RWC can succeed

The great strength of T20 over ODIs is the role bowlers can play. In ODIs a bowler who takes 0 for 25 is worth more than a bowler who takes 5 for 70. That has always been a weakness of ODIs. Nothing for the bowlers. However, in T20 there is a strong role for bowlers. Two overs with few runs can change the course of a game. Also appealing in T20 v ODIs is the judicious use of spinners. They can really tie down an innings immediately after batters have been accustomed to pace. T20s should replace all ODIs on all calendars within the next five years.

ODIs are dead. T20 is now the internationally popular abridged form of cricket.

While we are at it. Why hasn’t Western Sydney got a decent cricket ground? Only a converted Baseball Stadium at North Lidcombe. Surely all that land near the new Western Sydney Airport offers an opportunity to give cricket fans in Western Sydney a decent venue?

'Queensland is the worst state in Australia': The Liebke Report Card

Please rate the Gabba as a test cricket ground. Now last in Australia along with the SCG? Good for AFL Football but as a five day test venue?

A competent cricketer, but has Usman Khawaja the “cricketing leverage” of a David Warner to dictate a retirement? Perhaps not.

Good lesson though. There were press reports earlier that former Seven CEO James Warburton was BT’s protector and BT had alienated many others at the network through a combination off pomposity and boorish behavior. Remember the old saying.. “be nice to those on the way up, because you never know who you might need on the way down.”

But Brian was the star of the show. People tuned in just to hear him. Don’t believe me. Ask Brian himself, he will tell you.

'I don't want any regrets': Two-time World Cup Wallaby confirms audacious NFL bid

US College and NFL Scouts are starting to take a keen interest in Pacific Islander talent. Could be interesting for both rugby codes in ten years’ time if the best young talent is lured to the US through college scholarships.

So much commentary about the Australian XI and the Ashes next year. How about the HERE and NOW. Since the Border/ Gavaskar Trophy was established India have won ten series and Australia five with one drawn. A two to one advantage to India. If that were the Ashes results since 1996 Australian Cricket would be regarded as in a total crisis. Time to wake up! A series against India is at least the equal, if not a greater challenge, than the Ashes.

The problem is today many commentators think it is about THEM, not the game. James Brayshaw a great example. 150 tests for Australia and 500 AFL games, all in his own mind.
