So within a week we have an article about England products Nic Dolly and Tom Lynagh and their aspirations to play for Australia. We also have an article railing against the immorality of Celtic countries raiding Australian junior ranks for talent and how the IRB needs to put a stop to it.

Meh, plenty nice ideas have come crashing dowwn to reality once they come into contact with the EPL. The coaches here have seen it all before.

Its just as much about the way he plays and his attitude in the media as much as the results. If you’re down to a couple kids at centre half you probably shouldnt be hanging them out to dry by playing a high line with your midfielders (also kids) bombed forward. Yet apparently naive delusions is “the way we play, mate”. He’s got to be favourite in the sack race right now.

No, youre wrong. If PI players want to play for the Wallabies or All Blacks all power to them. All I’m saying is Australia and New Zealand got no right to go pointing fingers at Scotland or Ireland because we’re not above taking players other nations developed either. Whether they do it more, or whether they do it slightly differently is irrelevant. You cant call foul when other nations do the same thing you’re doing just they do it better.

Another irrelevant post. Millionaire Rugby players wont be living in the banlieues of Paris or Marseilles will they? Theyll be living in a nice middle class neighbourhood with a standard of living at least as good as what you find in Australia. Just like they ain’t about to start living in a housing commission fibro in the Western Suburbs of Sydney.

If you think French clubs care about what the French national team does then you’re sorely mistaken. The national team plays 2nd fiddle to the clubs in the minds of the French Rugby public, let alone club administrators. Just because Australia and NZ look at Super Rugby as some sort of glorified development comp doesnt mean thats what goes on in the rest of the world. Its the main reason Super Rugby has failed IMHO.

Some of those guys came with their family when they were kids. Others came on Rugby scholarships when they were teenagers, sometimes via League, sometimes via New Zealand.

Yeah, but who says what the “integity of the sport” is? French clubs are gonna say having all the best players playing in Top 14 is best for the sport. Scotland and Ireland are gonna say having the best national team they can recruit is the best thing for the sport. Funny how we think whatever suits us in AU and NZ is also best for the sport. Ultimately the Northern Hemisphere is cashed up because they generate the most interest from their fans. They would say thats whats best for the sport.

A lot of those guys were poached out of PI youth teams by NZ Rugby schools. Depends how far back you wanna go.

Taniela Tupou just off the top of my head. Marika Korobeite, via League. Filipo Daugunu. I’m sure there’s more if I wanted to spend time looking. Plenty thick Polynesian and Kiwi accents in the Wallaby squad. That doesn’t happen when you grow up in Australia.
Ultimately its irrelevant we gave them a chance. We gave them a chance because we wanted to exploit their talent. Just like my first employer gave me a chance. Even spent money training me. But he wasnt doing it for my benefit, was he? He was doing it because he wanted me to make him money. Doesnt mean he gets to dictate who and where I can work. What the article is asking for is a worldwide ban on other countries employing ANZAC labour because Australia and NZ are running the game into the ground and making stupid decisions. Its kinda ridiculous.

I dont know where you or RA get this idea that the current system is making Australian Rugby better. The proof of the last 20 years is that Australian Rugby is going backwards. Players are looking at this self delusion and they dont want to be a part of it. I’m not surprised the rest of the world aren’t shooting themselves and the game in the foot just because RA and a lot of Australian Rugby fans have a really bad idea.

Here’s an idea. How about selecting European based players. They may not decide to represent the country they live in if their home country didnt decide to turn its back on them.

Completely agree. Not only do SH nations not want to pay these guys. they want to turn their back on them and not consider selecting them for the national team. You cant have it both ways.
