We ALL love Roar 😱 😂 😛 😁

Brisbane Roar FINALLY earn first win with massive boilover, Reds pinch top spot from Auckland

Fees for Australian players are too low but will only go up once players start to make a success of their transfers.

Too often they fail or garner reputations for having “glass knees” and with a willing set of A League willing to take them back coming home is easy – MacLaren, Borrello to name just two. Would it surprise you to hear Waddingham is coming back to WSW for a season long loan in winter?? It wouldn’t me.

Nestory was subbed at half time due to his side being reduced to ten men early in the game. Let’s hope he starts again next weekend.

Adelaide United have got what every A-League club wants - home advantage

Agree with most.all of what you’ve said, but especially this:

*very good eye when it comes to staff (an underestimated skill in coaching, finding the right assistant coach, analyst, talent identifier)

Surely it’s only a case of which club Vert will joint for next season – Victory or go overseas?

I wouldn’t have predicted he’d one day transfer for $1.2m but shows what hard work does.

One too many imo SS … one too many!

Having worked with various supported groups over the past decade, I’m surprised SFC and The Cove are having issues – those two always seemed to have a great relationship.

Thanks for the comment.
Kye Rowles just moved for A$1.2m suggesting there is a decent upwards adjustment in the valuation of Australian players.

That’s a good assessment.

It was the corresponding fixture last season where I thought Zadkovich offered some promise – Sydney were presenting a very high press which was causing all teams problems and his side played through it beautifully on regular occasions and got in great goal scoring positions (just couldn’t finish).

If he could build on that with close season signings then there were reasons to be optimistic – but if the 11 (?) close season signings, none have been inspiring.

I’m expecting Zadkovich to stay now until the seasons end with a decision made early in the close season to keep him (or not) being made then.

I think these next 13 games are Zadkovich’s “job interview”.

Off topic but this came up relating to Waddo’s rumoured transfer to Portsmouth:

Portsmouth are closing in on the signing of Sydney FC defender Hayden Matthews”

The fee: $2,500,000

Highly unlikely as that is the form of the current Top 4 sides.

But I’d take not losing 7 out of 13 with a mix of wins/draws as a step in the right direction.

Sydney can have Zadkovich any time you like – a few friends I know will pay his airfare

Perth we’re going through a phase of trying to hire as many Irish players as they could based on the whims of one man.

If Roar are going down the route they have described then Talent ID and Talent Retention have to significantly improve.

Early days still but Herrington looks the goods, our best young prospect by a long way

Well bloody said.

Freke is not a bad keeper but he’s not a good one either.

1st goal – not his fault but once the ball drops to a surprised King he has to be out quick and low for a save.

2nd goal – that’s a routine save for most A League keepers but Freke flaps at it

3rd goal – as you say it’s a high floated ball, like the first goal the FB should do better but it’s a simple “dink” towards a throw in if the keeper comes out. Made worse by Freke being routed to the spot when the header dies come in – I can think of several keepers that would have saved that header.

Freke has cost Roar double figures in goals this season. Needs to go – half a dozen other keepers would have saved all three of those.

It was a very good performance Haloran and one that will have the critics, myself included, pausing for thought.

This isn’t a very good side. But the point is, it could be: O’Shea, Floren, Keegan, Hore, Halloran, are all good to great A League players.

It’s only the defence that is stuffed with a weak keeper and inexperienced back line making us very fragile.

It was a good lob and most players would have put that over the bar (great ball from O’Shea though – perfectly weighted making that finish possible)

But the keeper was neither here nor there and I suspect he’ll have a bit of time this week in video analysis on that one.

I was surprised Sydney hadn’t rotated – possibly thinking Roar would be easier than they were maybe?

There’s a long list of games this season Roar had let get away from them including the last time against Sydney … and they nearly blew this one too. It really could have been 5-4 either way by the end lol.

There’s some similarities between Sydney and Brisbane – decent going forward but some pretty slack defending.

Roars first three goals were really well crafted although I thought the keepers positioning for the first Roar goal was pretty shocking.

Stop worrying about empty seats.

Plenty of football leagues around the world play to empty seats.

Of Roars previous 12 games there are nine that were mainly lost (with two drawn) that should have been draws or wins.

The explanation for why these games were mainly lost sits with some inexplicable tactical decisions, team selections, poor or late substitutions, and a general inability to leverage the talent on hand .. all of which seemed to be lost in a sea of excuses as to why this team couldn’t win a game.

The fix for all that is a new Coach. One that knows how to lead.

The last time we played Sydney it was at Suncorp and they won 3-2 with a last minute goal – after a slow start Roar were the better side and were unlucky to lose that game in the last minute thanks to a shocking defensive mistake.

Sydney clearly didn’t remember that and came out tired and complacent yesterday and worse, allowed Jay O’Shea the freedom to run the game. And he did.

But the bigger picture is that Saturday was a great day with three excellent games, if you can ignore the bitter pill of defeat it’s days like this that will see the competition grow – especially that game in Adelaide.

For Roar, 1 win in 13 is unacceptable and the Coach must go. Either now and install an interim or in winter having searched for his replacement over the next few months.

For management – they need to stop talking about this rebuild and start showing evidence of the rebuild … football fans, and not just in Brisbane, deserve at least that.

He didn’t but didn’t know how to close the game out.

Mata wins praise for 'best game he's played', delightful assist - but Wanderers go down to motivated Mariners
