The 2024 Olympics will be remembered by many as the Games where Novak Djokovic finally completed the set and achieved his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal.

However, it is also a tournament that will be remembered as the last of Andy Murray’s glittering career.

While he falls short of ‘the big three’, Murray is undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players of his generation and has provided fans with many great moments.

So, here are the biggest achievements of a brilliant career during an extremely competitive era of tennis:

8. Madrid Masters 1000, 2015
One that goes under the radar is Murray’s Madrid Open triumph in 2015.

While not on as grand a stage as some of Murray’s most famous wins, to breeze past Rafael Nadal on Clay, 6-3 6-2, in the Spaniard’s own backyard in a final is no mean feat.

Murray’s first Masters 1000 title on the surface in very difficult circumstances was one that, on the day, he made look easy.

7. Davis Cup, 2015
Great Britain’s Davis Cup win in 2015 was a significant success in the Scot’s career, where he played an integral part.

Murray played in all of Great Britain’s three wins in the final against Belgium, first defeating Ruben Bemelmans in straight sets.

He then went on to partner his brother Jamie in doubles, seeing off Steve Darcis and David Goffin, before Andy defeated the latter in another straight sets win to secure the victory.

6. ATP Finals 2016
Going into the 2016 ATP final against Djokovic, not only was a prestigious trophy that Murray had never won on the line but so was the chance to finish the year as world No. 1.

Murray saw off his rival in straight sets at the O2 arena to finally get his hands on the Thomas Lyte trophy.

5. Olympics 2016
Andy Murray wrote his name into the history books when he defeated Juan Martin Del Potro in the 2016 Olympic final.

He became the only man to ever win two Olympic gold medals in singles and the only tennis player in history to defend an Olympic singles gold medal.

4. Olympics 2012
After a heartbreaking defeat to Roger Federer in Murray’s first Wimbledon final a matter of weeks prior, Murray came back to wipe the floor with the Swiss back on centre court at SW19.

A place where Federer enjoyed so much success, Murray denied him an Olympic gold medal in singles and set the tone for himself to claim some of the biggest trophies in the sport.

3. Wimbledon- 2016
The first time in which Murray went into a Grand Slam final as a favourite at the 11th time of asking.

It was also the first Major final Murray had gone into without having to go up against either Djokovic or Federer.

He dispatched Milos Raonic in straight sets to claim a second Wimbledon title and it is difficult to think what could have been in terms of Major wins if Murray had played in a different era.

2. US Open- 2012
The victory over Federer in the gold medal final was the biggest success of Murray’s career up until that point, and he was able to top it at the first Major after the Games, as he defeated Djokovic over five gruelling sets.

Fans were beginning to think that, despite his talent, Murray may never get over the line and win a Grand Slam.

He finally achieved it at the fifth time of asking at Flushing Meadows at became the first man from Great Britain to win a Major since Fred Perry all the way back in 1936.

1. Wimbledon- 2013
After coming up short in the final the previous year to Federer, Murray went back into another Grand Slam final against Djokovic.

Between the US Open victory, the previous year and the final at SW19, Djokovic had defeated Murray at the Australian Open final and fans went into the final hopeful of Murray reaching the promised land but aware of the excellence of Djokovic.

Murray was able to beat his rival in straight sets and fulfil his dream of having his name etched onto the Wimbledon trophy.
