Ben is a retired former Wallaby front rower who has been asked about his neck injury more than a million times by his reckoning. Yes, it's fine, thanks for asking. Ben was lucky enough to be involved with, mainly as a hanger on, some wonderful sides at the Brumbies and Wallabies. He works in coaching, analysis and media and has started his own analysis company Gainline. Ben's company tracks teams recruitment of players and how it impacts on their results. Pirates to conclude i am going to hold on that one for a while )re the english club system) as i am working with certain clubs to help them solve these types of problems so i don’t want through all the IP out.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Hi Pirates , the research is based on a couple of things but at the moment we are getting around 84%
to be honest i have very surprised but as i have said ad in a lot of replies on here. the idea is not to talk about my feelings on who wins the tournament but to go through this process yourself.
The more i have read about predictive analytics the more you begin to understand there is no exact measure on who will win but ranges.
If you have a game played between two sides tomorrow.
Say All Blacks and Scotland. Now there is lets say there is 100 possible outcomes. 2 of which are scotland winning because Carter gets injured in the first minute and all the scots have the game of their life.
Now the night before you pick the all blacks to win by 20. Now this outcome may have been say 10 of the 100 outcomes.
So does that mean you were wrong or right?
I might be totally wrong about Ireland but they do still win through to the final. It might make me seem like a genius but i was off the mark , how does that work?
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Hi red bull I am a little a little cautious I am sorry to say but I am building my business in this data and the predictive analysis that it provides. If you take a look into the “miracle on ice hockey game”. That is pretty much where all this work began for me.
Sorry to be cryptic
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Thanks Chris , I won’t go too deeply but some countries in terms of national sides carry a massive advantage in terms of how we can feed guys into the national program’s. We have looked at thousands of seasons by teams and how they have played out and the numbers are stacked so heavily against England being successful that it is amazing they have done as well as they have.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
On the 8 years your 100% right as someone else pointed out it was 6.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
No that sound fair 98 till 03 so 6 years. I agree this will be too early.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Eddard my apologies . It appears that Georgia may very well beat Namibia .
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Can’t disagree with your number they seem accurate . But it’s still my opinion .
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Thanks Chris. Great response. The short answer is yes. In the end England may well have the best players at the next World Cup. But the way there rugby is set up works against them so much that they have to be definably better even to stand a chance. Ireland don’t have to be as good but their system favours them enormously , as it does the welsh. I try not to have a bias if I can. My favourite player growing up being Jason Leonard I do have a soft spot for England ( perhaps my being born in Crewe helps).
My bias is against the way the premiership and top 14 hinder the national program’s.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
unfortunately england have to play together a lot more to be competitive than other countries. i know this might sound illogical but it is the nature of their rugby system. thats why they seem underdone unless they have played tons together ie 2003.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
i agree bay man but i can see them beating england,
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Hi chris , as i said in some other response this is really to give you guys a chance to talk and fill the bracket.
I simply went off the data that i have that said a win for ireland.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
thanks sheek , as i once heard a professional gambler say. Never bet on anything with an oval ball. Its more an attempt to get you guys to put forward your own version and let me know what you think by going through the process.
The reasoning is simple enough, ireland to beat france in the pool , to beat england as they should have done in the 6 nations, that puts them in the final.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Thanks birdy
There is some fundamentals is how the england side has been set up that work against it succeeding at national level that means that it does take longer for them to improve . With 03 , that side was together for a good part of 8 years. Unfortunately it is built into the DNA of rugby in the northern hemisphere but sorry to say i cant tell you much more as i have built a lot of my professional work around these algorithms and ideas.

Dont tempt to write a 300 page essay on this issue,
So I will be brief.
There is an issue on this about who scrummages best with who.
But on the best players i like.

Funny how these plans go so awry. However if there are reasons for a win and people are so happy to jump on them. there must be reason for a loss that are real.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
What is difference between a reason and an excuse,
I would say the poisoning would be a reason. Terrible refereeing a reason.
Maybe its the elements you cant control but do effect the outcome.
Predicting the 2015 Rugby World Cup bracket
Thanks mike , it depends on how valuable this is to team performance.
