It doesn’t really have anything to do with the Rebels no longer being around though. He’s considering playing overseas for a change in lifestyle or for a pay increase. I for one hope he goes and stops blocking the way for Teddy and Grant. I can’t believe how little time Teddy got last season and they came dead last!

Another 30 slots for a halfback?

You’re confused that the son of a wallabies legend son plays for Australia?

I think 6N just don’t like change in general mate. Don’t mistake that for wisdom. Also 6N are taking the piss with recruiting players half way around the world. I would have so much a problem with player movement between the uk countries and Ireland or between France and Italy. That would be a similar comparison to what happens down in the pacific.

Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders

Yeah the 6N really are the Boy Scouts here lol. They probably opposed it because they thought NZ and Aus would have a field day. But they really didn’t. For Aus I can only think of uru, Marika and vunivalu that RA “poached”. They were already living here or playing league.

Just gotta hope those 2 boys get home sick!
Best result is those French clubs develop them for 3 years and then they come back and a super club can pick them up.

Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders

Mate, French teams are signing players straight out of school/still in school. Whilst the clubs over there are “looking after themselves”, it’s also pretty obvious they’re trying to build depth for the national team.

I assume they were trying to help out the pacific island nations.

It definitely is. You need fat blokes with no neck in the front row to push scrums and tall blokes in the 2nd row compete in the lineout. Open your eyes.

It’s still not the same. He doesn’t have another coaching gig lined up. And if he ends up coaching super rugby it’s still not a conflict of interest.

Exclusive: Wallaby dropped by Schmidt for first camp of 2025 after signing with overseas club

It’s clearly different. Schmidt wouldn’t be leaving for more money or opportunity, it’s to do with family.

They are attempting to fix the problem. It’s called not paying overs on fringe wallaby players. He has exciting potential but he’s not consistent. And we have actual depth in the back row. Uru, Cale and leota (to a lesser extent). All are far better lineout options. Then we have good young talent coming through, talataina, Bryant and Brial look very promising. Good for Gleeson – change of scenery probably better pay packet and he’s young enough to come back a better player. Will miss his line denting ability though.

'Wish him well': RA confident in depth despite losing World Cup Wallaby to France

👍 Hired a quality coach (with recent international success)
👍 Hired a quality High Performance Director
👍 expanded northern tour
👍 improved under 19s and under 15s pathways comp
👍 Culled the rebels (full of debt and never performed) and did a pretty good job of relocating those players

Ten fearless predictions for 2025: Schmidt departs, Aussies go deep in Super Rugby, Wallaroos' landmark year

So you’re saying Australian rugby will just carry on the same?

I’ve never been impressed with his game. Prefer the blokes they have Valentini, Wilson, Uru, Gleeson and Wright. But happy to be proven wrong next super season.

Leota is overrated mate. Big, but lazy.

They might be signed up for Vegas for 5 years but they’re not gonna make any actual money when they get booted from the network in favour of college basketball. And no one went to the game.
AFL dwarfed the NRL for attendance and memberships. And the figures I looked at had the afl winning the ratings too. And they gave the nrl half of the thurs night to themselves. And had games playing at the same time on Saturday. Their players association cost their code dominance.

Prospecting for gold: The best young centres in Australian rugby

Quick question. Did you even watch him play? He wasn’t perfect but he did more right than wrong. Your statement that he will struggle at super level is flat out ridiculous. If he stays fit, he’ll be a handful for any opposition.

Confused how Super rugby will be harder than test footy? The trickiest part will be figuring out his best position.

Prospecting for gold: The best young centres in Australian rugby

Agree. Melbourne storm has been very successful and everyone knows who they are. This is mainly down to having the same coach for 20 years and therefore winning! Their memberships are high because they consistently win. Looking at the membership numbers, north Melbourne had 20k more this year and they had 3 wins! Also, there’s been 5 Victorian players come through in 25 years. It might now be on the up atm but that wouldn’t be difficult given the low base they’re starting with. Face it people don’t really give a shit about rugby league down there. They would face the same challenges it Perth. Anyways, it’s a dumb sport, if more people realised the better.

Ok so a few things. The AFL will do a lot better ratings wise next year. Stupidly, they didn’t do Thursday night every round. Which meant that the NRL had a free hit for half the season. And that also meant there was a big log jam on Saturday’s where you literally could not watch every single game. Cannibalised their own product. They’ve fixed it a bit but still have some overlap on Saturday’s. The AFL would rate through the roof if they televised their final at night. Tassie will be an extra game. Then that will force the afl to get another team in so they don’t have to muck around with a bye. The NRL Vegas venture didn’t really get much attention and had to run as a loss. Horse guy is shrewd but no one gives 2 shits about the NRL outside of Brisbane and Sydney. And if cricket ever gets going in the states, they’ll have some oval facilities to run AFL matches.

Yeah fair. I know it works from a broadcast side but with a side in PNG and Perth makes it an uneven number of teams with bye round. So they will probably try to get Christchurch as well. I know they’re trying to be the national code but I personally don’t think it ever will be. AFL has that covered. They’ve had a team in Melbourne but can’t say the code is flourishing there. It’s propped up but the NRL through feeder clubs. If they expand too quickly they’ll lose ground in Brisbane and Sydney. Which is good for rugby. Again, I’ll believe it when I see it. But I think horse guy will just keep padding that it’s all moving in the right direction in Perth.
