Interesting times ahead, it would seem.
I think everyone wants the Rebels, but no-one wants RA footing the bill.
PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club
Thanks Geoff,
Just a question, if RA agrees to this, which would be sensible.
1) can they get guarantees it doesn’t fall back on RA
2) do they hold the licences for VR for future?

Oh Snap,
This was a pipe dream (may still be, but they are within a 60 day time frame from last week)
Train and Charlie I certainly see you’re points of view and empathise, but if they can get 5k supporters there instead of AAMI park, is that not better when 5k have been turning up at AAMI.
I’m with you though, but to keep the team might be better for all

Who would’ve thunk it,
RA “MIGHT” have a plan.
All of these appointments at coaching are short term.
Hats off to Pete Horne.
In any strategy there are short, medium and long term goals.
This approach appears to be sensible.
I don’t know how we’ll go against Wales yet, but it appears there’s a plan for the coaching structure.

Well, I just read this article and who would’ve thought, the opening 5 comments relate to to something completely unrelated, such as:
Is it a franchise or a club.
Oh us Rugby types are son smart aren’t we.
But before you correct on my grammar or, potentially my inadequacies, I’d like to say congratulations to RA and the Tahs.
He seems level headed and has a lot of potential.
Potential?????
He has done well, let’s see how he goes.

'Best place for me': Wallaby-in-waiting Jorgensen commits to Aussie rugby in boost ahead of Lions series
Absolutely.
He is 19 and has talent. We’ve been waiting for petitia and he hasn’t performed over 6 years.
It’s time for new. It’s not big in terms of contracts.
Suaali is a strange one, but this good.
It’s short, it’s not high end either.
Smart move.
Now for actual props as well.

Focus on the reds scrum group right now.
They’re strong and motivated

Are you on drugs?
Australian Rugby has just let banked $40m minimum.
The rebels board want to minimise their debt.
Now I respect board and their intentions, but this is “house of cards play”
The rebels board is try to destroy Rugby in Australia.
Not the board mate; this will destroy the code.
Maybe your u want that. Maybe you want to see rugby die.
2023 is enough mate.
Let the new structure have a go.
Rugby union dominates globally, in Australia it doesn’t, but $50m in a week says better.
The rebels in Melbourne have a debt of $22m.
Even if they win $8m, with legals of another $5m, join the dots mate.
It’s about destroying Rugby in Australia

Hey, anckle tapped,
This is not the past mate, this is the future.
Do you really think blowing legal costs is the way forward?
RA has just banked approximately $40m in revenue for sold out tests for the lions, why would they prop up the rebels when they created a war.
This in point scoring.
Pay millions on legal instead of the team.
No morals mate
Exclusive: Rebels threaten Civil War as peace talks with RA end in another blow for Super Rugby
Sorry Jimmy Jones, no-one attends and they are literally, paying millions to accuse someone else.
Please!!!
Their motive is to destroy this great code.
There’s no way out, just millions on a blame game.
Exclusive: Rebels threaten Civil War as peace talks with RA end in another blow for Super Rugby
Hey Footy Franks,
I was all for the Rebels in Melbourne, but this is nothing more than blame game.
The board is trying to destroy Rugby Australia.
I’m not saying rugby Australia have it right either, but this is millions to fight it.
The rebels board seen to have millions to fight RA, but won’t pay a debt.
Put the millions of legal costs, to pay the debt instead.
This is most absurd scenario in the history of business.
Exclusive: Rebels threaten Civil War as peace talks with RA end in another blow for Super Rugby
Disagree Jacko,
The game will go broke. The rebels have $22m debt.
Even if RA came in they’re still $14m short.
It’s a fight that has no winners.
The rebels have no traction in Victoria.
I hate to say it, I love the team, but to go further is death knell for RA.
Lawyers will make millions

Yep, I hear that.

Fresh Wallabies blow as Waratahs lose gun centre to complicate selection ahead of Lions tour
Interesting article,
Especially Matt To’omua, that never worked for him.
Kicking goals is not the only scoring opportunity.
I reckon Lynagh is going well.

Wallabies Power Rankings: How every Test contender is shaping up one month into Super Rugby
Couldn’t agree more Leroy,
Perese is a great player and depth is the question.
Flook is my pick right now (and last year).
Having said that, Perese is a great player and deserves this.
Good on you Izzy.
Fresh Wallabies blow as Waratahs lose gun centre to complicate selection ahead of Lions tour
Great move,
This should be standard practice for all touring teams north and south.
Gives up and comers a chance and punters to watch something different.
Imagine if NZ A or England played the Tahs or the Brumbies as a one-off.
Great initiative from the Reds
'A wonderful initiative': 33-year first as Wales to take on Queensland Reds in 'nod to traditional tours'
That was disappointing CD.
The Reds should’ve iced that game before golden point.

I reckon that’s the last nail Christy,
Unfortunately, it just looked like they lost the moment they kicked off.
It must be hard for the boys though.
TJ, I don’t see this as coordinated at all.
Poor management at the Rebels and RA of course, but I don’t think it’s coordinated.
The difference between the Force getting flicked in 2017 and the Rebels is so vast.
The supporters came out in droves even before Twiggy came to the party

It’s pretty clear, based on this, even if the Rebels “miraculously” stay, nine and Stan have lowered their offering.

Seven point plan to save Super Rugby
Here’s a quick question for bigger brains than mine.
I know businesses struggled during Covid and had ATO payment plans.
I thought they were $10k, $50k or thereabouts.
Surely the ATO knew $11m couldn’t be recovered?
What is that about?
CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade
Wow,
This is much worse than I thought.
The Rebels board are at fault here for sure.
This is extreme.
I know RA have been poor but this is purely on the board of the rebels. Regardless of what they claim RA owes, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the overall debt.
I don’t know if if centralisation will/would’ve done anything to affect this
CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade
I’m torn by this, I really am.
The negatives of the board are spot on, as is giving control to the rugby community and the board approval for I’ll-advised spending habits.
Having said that, I do believe the high performance unit is well thought out and has been established with years before an outcome is noticed.
The news limited issue wasn’t giving much anyway, but then again none/stan has also placed rugby on the back page.
My concern is that more upheaval right now could do more damage than? But then again, will the changes made work given the past mismanagement.
I see both sides.
The bottom line is, rugby is dying and needs a reset.
The lions tour “internationals” are already sold out, which you would anticipate.
Given that money will Pay down a debt only, it is precarious.
RA has just reset, will resetting again make it better or worse?
COMMENT: Australian rugby is a depressing picture - the RA board must be axed and the constitution changed
