You think kids moving from the islands to NZ and Australia are the same thing as professional players defecting?
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
That would be because you, like CPM, are pretending to think a kid coming to Australia at 2 or 3 years is the same thing as an existing professional rugby player switching nations.

We’re talking about the good NH teams, not England
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
I guess the real question that needs to be asked then is “What is a national side?”
Is it a representation of the rugby players of that nation, or is it just the best group of players a given nation can put together, regardless of origin?
How would we feel if the USA (say) bought in 23 current top level test players, paid them to train and play in the MLR for three years, then threw them into a RWC?

Lowe no , Hansen no
Gibson-Park got his in 2023 and Aki in 2024

At one time I would have said yes, but that ship’s clearly sailed

I’d be happy with that too, at least it shows some commitment to the new nation
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
I think it is wrong to point fingers at NH teams for anything.
What else are we supposed to do until the season starts?

If they’re professional players in Australia they already have scored a playing opportunity though

He lived in Australia from 4 years old mate.
Why is Fiji poaching kids from Aussie schools?
Sit down

What Fiji rep team did Kerevi play for at 3 years old?
Korobete came from league
You’ve had this myth debunked at least three times I can see just on this page, but you won’t let it go, will you?
There are none so blind
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
I agree, they should have citizenship
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
No one has a problem with them going overseas
The problem is with professional players slotting straight into a foreign national side
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
Cases like that I think are fine, but I concede they would miss out if we draw the line where I proposed.
At what point is a national team no longer a national side and just another club?
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
I’ve got no problem with players playing wherever they choose for however much they can get paid.
What I have a problem with is importing already developed professional players and then selecting them in a national side.
At that point why have a national team at all?
Are they just another club or are they supposed to represent the country on the jersey?
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
Which PI kids were given rugby scholarships in NZ and Aus?

Plenty thick Polynesian and Kiwi accents in the Wallaby squad. That doesn’t happen when you grow up in Australia.
Haha, have you never been to an Australian rugby club?
We moved to Australia when my youngest brother was 2 years old, he never had a kiwi accent until he started playing rugby here.
Rugby's rotten flaw: Why it's time for World Rugby to protect southern nations from northern raiders
Do you think it’s the soccer mentality in that part of the world?
Ie they think clubs are more important than nations

I would have maybe said Korobeite, but that wasn’t even rugby’s doing

No rules were broken
That’s the point of this discussion
For financial reasons he needed to play for Ireland?
No I don’t think so.

They don’t have to remain anywhere.
The argument is that they shouldn’t be eligible to play for the national side of another nation.
I don’t think that’s an unreasonable position.

It’s a very insidious way to do things for mine – I just don’t see a way to legislate against it that doesn’t disadvantage legit immigrants.

Ok then, let’s go through that list
Tolu Latu (Tonga) – Can’t find an exact date, but played primary school sports in Sydney so clearly here at a young age.
Isi Naisarani (Fiji) – Can’t find much but was at Souths Rugby from at least 05 (20 years old)
Lukhan Salakaia-Loto (New Zealand) Moved to Australia at ‘a young age’, played Australian U20s
Taniela Tupou (Tonga) – Obviously played juniors in Australia
Jordan Uelese (New Zealand) – moved to Australia at age 11
Will Genia (Papua New Guinea) – moved to Australia at age 12
Dane Haylett-Petty (South Africa) – moved to Australia at age 10
Samu Kerevi (Fiji) – moved to Australia at age 4
Marika Koroibete (Fiji) – signed from school to NRL under 20s
Tevita Kuridrani (Fiji) – moved to Australia at age 16
Christian Lealiifano (New Zealand) – moved to Australia at age 7
David Pocock (Zimbabwe) – Pocock was actually born in South Africa it turns out – moved to Australia at age 14
None of these players’ stories are remotely comparable to existing elite rugby players being enticed to play for another national side.
