Interesting perspective. Thanks DGS.

'Simply unacceptable': RA chief fires back after consortium's leaked claim of 'abusive' behavior

Fair call Paul D. As a Rebels member, if it had have been successful I don’t really care what their MO was.

Although RA might have. Even still it seems weird that the consortium wouldn’t let RA know who was involved.

'Simply unacceptable': RA chief fires back after consortium's leaked claim of 'abusive' behavior

Ha ha No Arms. I don’t think that will be happening. More chance of RA forcing Brumbies to split home games between Canberra and Melbourne.

That is one of the main reasons that the Brumbies have not agreed to centralisation model.

'Simply unacceptable': RA chief fires back after consortium's leaked claim of 'abusive' behavior

Massive conflict of interest for Widdup. I am surprised the “new” consortium had any former directors officially involved. Also surprised that the consortium wouldn’t name who the other people involved were. Makes me think that other former directors are involved.

Still not 100% sure how CEO Baden who steered the ship into the iceberg got a job with Fijian Drua so quickly.

I would also note that Widdup isn’t the only one with a conflict of interest. RA had a massive conflict of interest. RA are running the wooden spoon winning Waratahs. On closing the Rebels players become available that will make the Waratahs better.

Very sad news. RIP Cam. Condolences to your family and friends.

'Kind and easygoing person': Tributes pour in for former Dockers, Giants forward Cam McCarthy

The SARU played the ARU like a fiddle. The SARU already had another competition for their axed teams to play in. Whereas for the ARU it was effectively killing a team.

I didn’t agree with cutting a team at the time. Thankfully Twiggy saved the Force. One good thing about COVID-19 is that the Force came back in to the Super Rugby fold. (Although, it obviously didn’t help the Rebels generate revenue during that period).

Sadly as a Rebels member based on our current financial situation I am not sure how we survive beyond this year.

COMMENT: This is the real reason why the Force were cut in 2017

Jack, I agree with your comment re: poor management. Not paying super to staff and not paying the ATO, is pretty average.

The more information we get the worse it sounds and the closer to a near certain death looms.

Doesn’t sound like you have any empathy for members and fans. That is a bit rough given we haven’t been responsible for the management of the club.

'All fun would disappear' - as critics 'dance on Rebels’ grave', for a club and its fans a precipice looms

East Coast Aces agree, the Rebels level of player turnover has been massive for our entire existence.

Sadly Rocky’s Rules, I think you may be correct.

It is sad on yhe eve of a BI Lions tour and a couple of years out from a home men’s RWC.

How could I have forgotten about the pink budgy smugglers? A great memory.

So nothing has changed at RA then. If they are leaking confidential discussions. That is horrible governance.

The Wrap: Unity, integrity and the other casualties of shameful leaks aimed at the Rebels

A sad day for us Rebels fans, just got sadder.

Thanks Andrew, you have been great for the Rebels. I will look forward to watching you run around for the Rebels for one more season. ????

Exclusive: Wallabies star to return to Waratahs in fresh blow to Rebels

Train without a station a very good point re: S&C team. At the start of the last two or three seasons the injury list has been as long as your arm and made up of a number of first XV players.

Pressure Points: Kevin's conundrum as 2024 threatens clash of culture vs clash of results at the Rebels

Great article Nick.

I was sceptical when the Rebels and Dave Wessels parted ways and after a worldwide search for his replacement identified the person in the office next door. (Who surely was part of the original problem).

I was also surprised when Foote was re-signed, because at the time I thought he was on the road to being axed come season’s end, based on results.

I understand wanting to have a stable environment, but surely you need a successful and stable environment. Not being able to make the finals when 8 out of 12 teams make the finals and there have been two new teams in the comp, is pretty disappointing.

You have discussed how previously the Rebels have started seasons well and then fallen off a cliff. Last season in a number of games we were right in it for 60 minutes, but we don’t want to mention the last 20.

On a positive note, the Rebels did play entertaining rugby last season. So at least it was good to watch, unlike for instance when Tony McGahan was coach.

Pressure Points: Kevin's conundrum as 2024 threatens clash of culture vs clash of results at the Rebels

Given the Force are backed by Twiggy, when I read about a reduction to 4 teams, my first thought goes to my Rebels. Or even a merger between Brumbies and Rebels. Brumbies used to have development programs in Melbourne pre-Rebels.

Rebels do have good pathways and a heap of locals in the Rebels and even Wallabies squad. However, the results on field and crowds are mediocre. Hopefully, improved performances (if they happen) can get the crowds back.

One thing is for sure the Brumbies are right to be wary of the RA plan. Interesting that the NSWRU are the first to confirm they have jumped on board plan. Is that because the NSWRU see RA as an extension of themselves?

Key hire that must happen BEFORE Wallabies can recruit new coach, why Brumbies are stalling on RA plan

Makes me think of another former NZ back the Rebels signed, Tamati Ellison.

If Proctor is anywhere near as good for us as Ellison was, he will be great.

Great article Texi. I have tickets to all 6 games in Melbourne and I cannot wait.

Does Australia care about the FIFA Women's World Cup?

DP Schaefer I agree Billy has a great life balance and don’t think he would give that up for a full time coaching role.

Ryles to Dragons all but secured as incoming coach touted to begin work at St George Illawarra next month

Good signing by the Dragons. I was hoping Ryles might be the replacement for Craig Bellamy at the Storm.

He has worked under a number of good coaches Bellamy, Eddie Jones and Trent Robinson.

I feel like the WNBL have missed an opportunity to piggy back off Women’s Basketball World Cup when promoting the season.

Although, one of the problems is the ability to obtain mainstream media coverage.

WNBL season preview: The GOAT is back with Jackson in action for Flyers

Josh the crowd was quite small for the Mali game, which was the game on Friday.

The crowds for the other Opals games v France, Serbia, Canada and Japan have been great, approx 9k and the atmosphere has been amazing.

I have loved every moment of the tournament. Bring on the quarter finals.

Why Australia should be taking a shine to gritty Opals, a gem of a team you can be proud to support

Great article Paul. The Opals have been one of the best performed Australian teams over the last 20-odd years.

The mainstream media have definitely not given them the love they deserve.
