As Billy Birmingham once put it: “**** me. What a drubbing.”

'It hurt me': Cheika takes blame after Leicester leak 80 POINTS to high-flying Toulouse, Ramm scores in Saints' win

Japanese League One is a bit of a step down from a test against SA in SA. He’ll be fine.
Have to agree that Hoops was a real boost to Stan’s coverage. Someone with genuine insight into what’s happening on the park and able to communicate it without straining himself.

'Bit of a Hail Mary': Former Wallaby skipper comes out of retirement to sign new pro deal

This is why I do worry a bit about WR being tempted by the big money of some oil-rich nations. When the money is so much that you put aside any misgivings about where it comes from (not so much the sale of oil but the basic human rights and women’s rights and suffrage issues), can you still pretend to have values? How does rugby continue to improve as a sport women should care about if they take the big coins from the Persian gulf states?

'Nonu means nothing to them': The USA has been selling rugby the wrong way - this is how the 2031 RWC can succeed

The coach’s selection preference being strongly tilted to players in the SRP competition aligns with (perhaps is driven by) RA’s strong preference. Would it be any different with any other coach under the current RA management?

Exclusive: Wallaby dropped by Schmidt for first camp of 2025 after signing with overseas club

To my eyes, Schmidt’s deferral of his decision looks more like he has decided to finish this year but is giving RA more time and all the help he can give to sort out what comes next.

De Lutis had 3 on his back when he started for Australia XV vs England A three weeks ago. What ever made you think he was a loose-head?

Reds sign Aussie-born All Blacks prop - and he could be a Wallabies bolter to play the Lions

I’d argue that McReight plays more in the style of George Smith than Pocock.

Five out of seven ain’t bad but Joe still needs to fix two deadly Wallabies sins before tangling with the Lions

Against Ireland, Lolesio and Gordon were both sacrificing a lot of distance by kicking the ball into the stands rather than risk a quick throw and counter attack. Not sure if this was deliberate or just inaccurate or not trusting themselves. Line kicking was also poor against Scotland. Again, deliberate to avoid quick counter, or lost confidence/accuracy?

Check the laws – they’re available online. When a player kicks the ball in general play, all opposition players are immediately put onside, a la running 5m or passing the ball. Sione wasn’t involved in the play prior to catching the ball, so no infringement prior to the kick that put him onside. Just have to accept that Tate pulled the wrong rein with that cross kick.
Edit – I agree that Tate’s tempo generates attacking opportunities that Gordon and White do not, although his clearance kicking isn’t good enough. None of our 9’s are all we need.

The coach is to blame for that one. Kellaway and Potter can fill in at 13 at SRP level but against quality test sides, the WB need credible centre cover on the bench. Flook might be able to offer that as centre/wing cover in #23 with one or both starting wingers capable of covering full back. I also favour including Flook and developing him as the answer to the question, “What happens if Ikitau is injured?”

Yes, he showed quality but only lasted 1.5 games in 2024, and we only saw that because Paisami got a head knock.

A sign of improvement this year is how noticeably poor the exit kicks and penalty line kicks were in the Scotland and Ireland matches – it was below the standard they’d been achieving against England and Wales and even in the TRC.

Yes to all of that!

Hopefully, by the time RWC27 rolls around, Werchon and Wilson (Ted) will be pushing for WB spots. Next year’s Lions tour looks like it will be too soon for them.

Miamoto Musashi’s ‘attitude no-attitude’.

After years of 'crazy selections', Schmidt has 'made up his mind' with Wallabies squad - it's a huge boost

While I agree with the thrust of what you say/type, to describe Kellaway’s missed tackles in the Scotland match as “the odd missed tackle” is too much of a stretch. Personally, I doubt he was 100% fit to play that one as his tackle misses in that match stand in stark contrast to how he went against Ireland regardless of VdF getting under him for his try. (Williams was crook for the Scotland match and Bell was crook for the Ireland match. I expect several other players were less than 100% over the last two weeks of the tour.)

The Wrap: Say it ain’t so, Joe - Wallabies desperate for Schmidt to stay on beyond Lions series

19 losers last year – 4 pools of 5 teams.
Next RWC is 6 pools of 4.

The lineout will be better because they have Williams back in to do the calling.

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Schmidt makes six changes for season finale against Ireland, Suaalii cleared as Edmed debuts

The ritual affirmations of which school each player had been at is not something I miss.

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Schmidt makes six changes for season finale against Ireland, Suaalii cleared as Edmed debuts

Standard is for teams to be published at least 48 hours before kick-off. Match is Sunday 3am AEDT, 2am AEST, so don’t expect teams until late tonight or very early hours tomorrow morning.

Schmidt turns to 19th Wallabies debutant in 2024 for season finale against Ireland, Suaalii's shock recovery

Given Williams had to withdraw with illness, I wonder how many others in camp were crook during the week and not 100% on match day.

Ex-Wallaby says 'every aspect of Skelton's play is incredible', but his presence causes one major issue - five things we learned

6th is the magic spot that gets you top ranking in one of the pools for the ’27 RWC – it’s 6 pools of 4 teams instead of 4 pools of 5 teams, and the knock-out rounds start with a round of 16 instead of straight to QF’s.
[Edit – I like the aspiration, but I don’t think we’ll beat Ireland this weekend.]

If you agree with a protest message, you don’t need to hear it.
If you disagree with a protest message, you will be unmoved by it.
The real audience that matters for a protest message is people who think they are neutral. The protest message is to discomfort [=make feel uneasy] them; to prompt them to reassess their views. As Desmond Tutu famously told us, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
If you only protest where and when you are told you are allowed to, you’ve never had a cause worth protesting.
TJ has stirred some of the ‘good trouble’ US civil rights leader, John Lewis spoke of. Others can judge if it was worth it.

All Blacks' political protest in haka was wrong call - it has divided the nation, and game must be the priority

Williams was a big out, and I’d have Uru ahead of Gleeson on the bench.

'Gutted': Wallabies' Grand Slam hopes dashed by Aussie-born Tuipulotu as Schmidt sweats on Suaalii injury

McDermott saw more blue jerseys than gold running through the midfield between him and Kellaway and Wright out wide. If JAS was there that cross kick is probably a good play. But he wasn’t and it wasn’t.
