I’m interested as to why you write this Red Rob. I’m offering my opinion, if you don’t like it – feel free to disagree with it. But a decline, I don’t think that’s quite fair.

Keep the Genie in the bottle: Normalise denying the wish of young NRL players wanting out

Gotta disagree here with you uglykiwi. Slater is one of the best, sportsmanly losers this game has ever seen. Not only has he shown his professionalism as a coach – where he could’ve chosen to go off his rocker last night at the media who threw trash at him all month, but he was always class as a player. He was sensationally boo’ed off by the Roosters crowd in his final ever NRL game during the 2018 grand final – and not once did he say he deserved better.

Five and a kick: Silly Billy selections backfire, Jurbo the sideline skipper and Luai stumbles at final hurdle

Cheers Astro. For a guy that cops a lot of criticism, he performed near perfectly in such a high-pressure game. The Hunt hit was a big query though – hopefully there’s some kind of investigation there.

Two types of whistle: Origin is officiated differently, for good and a glaring bad

I see you point Pomoz – but leaving the crowd without a wave or remark would have been much more powerful. Luai played terrific and split the game open – no doubt about that. Sure, he’s entitled to respond, but leaving them with no answer or niggle would’ve marked a flawless series – one that shows he’s moved on.

It may not be fair, but it is something that must be discussed as an alternative. Nothing decided upon will be 100% fair. Another alternative is docking their match payment – which is around $30,000 a game. Take that money away, that’s a pretty significant punishment – I understand NRL players aren’t strapped for cash, but that’s a major chunk.

Five and a kick: Main men must spark, who dictates the decider and amendments for Origin 2025

Great article Lachlan. To play 300+ games as a prop of his stature is a great feat. He might blow his top and go a little rampant at stages – but has a clean off-field sheet and is a loyal clubman.

A tribute to JWH: Love him or hate him, you have to admire the NRL's 'last true aggressor'

I see your point regarding value Andrew – and am I’m glad these comments are in support of Townsend , making for some great discussion. I agree that Robinson is purely wanting injury cover, but it’s been a long time since Chad has really produced and the Roosters already have plenty of wise heads in camp. Cronk worked because he was not only a rounded player, but a genuine leader who people listened too. On a one-year deal, I don’t think Townsend will come in to Bondi and make his voice heard – it’s 350K that could’ve been spent as I said, trying to rope in the likes of Weekes or Pezet.

Keep Chad in the Town: Why sending a one-year Rooster callout is not the right play from Robbo

Agree with you BigGordon in the sense that it took him time to show his worth. In 2019 though, the Panthers finished 10th and had James Maloney and Nathan Cleary as their sole Origin reps (with Maloney on the outer). Innate hindsight – after first leaving the Panthers, he returned after a stint with the Tigers – begging for a chance to make it work. He didn’t have 13 guys at SOO standard – but the systems he built into Penrith endorsed those players.
Only six of his 17 players in 2019 went on to become staples in their successive premierships. Crichton, Bizza, Edwards, Sorenson all were very little prior to 2020.

Panthers wise to lock down Cleary father-son duo on megabucks deal with third family link ready to Jett back in

While I see your point Sporacle, I don’t think Murray was always a shoe-in for the 13. I still find Isaah Yeo an odd bench player. I would much rather Murray come into the game when a little fatigue is around, as oppose to Yeo.

McInnes confident Hynes will bounce back from Origin dumping after Sharks duo sunk by Maguire's Blues overhaul

Hi Steveng,

This list represents a halfway mark for the Dally M team of the year. Mitchell hasn’t been a top three fullback this season and has only played nine games to date. Yes he is a great player, but lacks the workrate of Edwards, Walsh and Tedesco on a week to week basis.

The NRL team of the season so far: Some new faces taking over as the best players in each position

Agree with you here Marksy that Hynes was average, but to suggest I can’t compare Dearden to Luai is rather odd. Especially in Origin. Because they are different styles of No.6’s offers more a reason to draw comparisons, and Dearden’s direct style of play outplayed Luai ten fold. It’s part of the reason Hynes was made to look a defensive liability, and also why he was pressured when kicking. Look at the kicking numbers and running stats from last night and Hynes tried. I was watching the same game as you, as were we all.

Five-eighths of nothing: Loitering Luai's sideways tactics must be dumped for a Moses return

The headline isn’t about paying out Hynes if you’ve read the story. It’s about how even a Dally M player can turn in as an Origin defect in the space of 80 minutes – that’s the cutthroat nature of the game

Dally M to Origin dud: Nicho Hynes faces the most challenging 80 minutes of his career

I think what they need is a dominant figure who has a proper grip over the playing group. While I think JD probably hasn’t had enough time to prove his worth, it’s evident he has little hold over the staples of their roster. Not that I want to go back to the Trell Triple M dilemma, but if a Jahrome Hughes/ Papenhuyzen made a comment saying they didn’t really care about the result but glad they got their 100th try, Bellamy would rip them a new one. Comes down to respect.

Demetriou facing sack after Souths' disastrous start with Bennett, Bellamy, Burgess possible replacement options

Why so Mushi? Brandon Smith is on 800K a year, and as stated in the story – is not a kicking no.9. He is a ball-runner when best, so to go for less than 20m in a big game and come off blowing with 30 to go is below par. Harry Grant played 80minutes last night – made 20 more tackles than Smith last week, ran for 80 metres and forced a crucial drop out.

The missing ingredient Roosters need to kick into title contention - and the no-name player Robbo should take a punt on

Stood up in defence, though in attack was quieter.
