After a 26-point loss to a team ranked four places lower than them, Wallaroos fans won’t be convinced their fortunes are changing anytime soon.…
The Wallabies are nearly halfway through the 2024 season, and the results so far have been quite varied. Three wins against weaker opposition preceded…
It is one of the biggest hot button issues of the last decade in Australian Rugby - should the Wallabies select overseas-based players? Or,…
Beating Wales twice is great, but what everyone really wanted from these July Tests was an indication of whether 2024 is going to be ‘the year of the Wallaby’.

Well Joe Schmidt didn’t exactly look to start with any other 10’s this year.
Why there’s never been a more exciting time to be a Wallabies and Wallaroos supporter
Unfortunately some of these problems are more long term – especially kicking.
Regarding the disparity in professionalism, that’s why this WXV2 run will be important for the Wallaroos. To play back-to-back tests against teams at a similar level to them will hopefully give them confidence with a few wins, and a proper look at where they’re situated in WR standings.
Why the Wallaroos' 26-point loss to Ireland was their best performance under Jo Yapp so far
I agree with your proposed changes to the XV however I would want to keep Smith at 12 and slot Moleka back to 15. Smith is a real asset in defence and can distribute nicely.
From a lacklustre lineout to miserable maul defence: The big improvements Wallaroos must make after Ireland hiding
Haha just saw yours, great stuff! Yes it seems we’re seeing different sides of the same coin. Self-inflected losses are funny things and I tend to be more optimistic about them – “we played well aside from a long list of mistakes”. I’m certainly intrigued for the Wales clash.
Why the Wallaroos' 26-point loss to Ireland was their best performance under Jo Yapp so far
I take your point that it’s weaker without those two. But, it has gotten the job done so far. Once the WB’s get passed their bench props (Slips, IK, AA) the quality diminishes significantly.
Wallabies mid-season stocktake: What does Joe Schmidt's team have... and what are they missing?
I agree the rebuild is the main factor. For the record I do think they’ll get there, but I do think JS and his squad would have thought they would be a *little* further along.

And the AB’s are more than counter attack and chip kicks. My point is they have weapons to use, seems you have missed that.

To be honest I expected there to be something for to complain about with this one but everyone seems to be in consensus haha
Wallabies mid-season stocktake: What does Joe Schmidt's team have... and what are they missing?
Yeah all good points – I think the main issue is the blend of the attack and defence tactics. I don’t know where the Wallabies points come from if they have a passive defence AND narrow attack. Very interested to see how they make that work
Wallabies mid-season stocktake: What does Joe Schmidt's team have... and what are they missing?
I agree, without much of an attacking flair they’ll need a strong defence to suffocate teams – at the moment though they’re conceding 25+ a game so there’s work to do!

Thanks mate! Haha love a good headline

He’s certainly the player with the highest ceiling. I would keep picking him for the TRC, at least the next 3-4 matches to give him the opportunity. Because ultimately those other players who *might* be better than him aren’t ready right now, so I see him in the position for the next 2 years at least if he performs well

I like his underhanded style at the moment as a base, but to be really effective he needs to pull the trigger occasionally and play as you said

I propose we only refer to overseas based players as FIFO’s from now on

What Noah offers is playmaking ability and a cool head. Aus has a history of skittish 10’s, which Noah was a few years ago, but his coolness under pressure this year has reaped rewards for the Brums + Aus. Not been perfect by any stretch but it’s the best Aus has right now.
JOC is a funny one, also cool under pressure and I love his flat running, but man he has this uncanny ability to make a silly mistake at the wrong time (e.g. dropping the ball over the line vs Wales)

Lolesio’s playmaking has gotten a lot better to the point of being the best in Aus right now, no other 10 has been able to orchestrate an attack like him in the last 3 years. I think Lynagh is the future but if he gets thrown in the deep end now it’ll be Noah 2.0.
Also, Eddie giving as many caps to Suli, as he did, as well as 0 wins against Tier 1 Nations, suggests that maybe he didn’t know what he was doing?

Yeah look I agree with your point that we were playing at home for those 2021 tests. There was a big drop in quality on that EOYT though compared to when they did pick Kerevi+Cooper etc.

I’m not sure whether he will pick Sio for the initial squad. I could see it happening if there is a Tahs-like injury list though (touch wood!)

According to Fairfax he’s open to bringing them in. Christy Doran also said they’re in talks with o/s players for TRC

I agree with your point on Lynagh, but they need depth in the 10’s department so building up players like Lolesio and Donno will be important. I believe Beale’s initial selection was for that purpose of being a mentor

We were having the same conversation about Richie Mo’unga back in 2019+2020. Marcus Smith also struggled in his first dozen tests. All with much stronger forward packs in front of them. They were given time in the saddle despite cringe performances

There’s another stat somewhere that he’s only been selected in consecutive tests on 2 or 3 occasions (I think that was before this year). It’s hard to build consistent performances if you’re not offered consistent appearances in the same way other players have been offered them.

It’ll be interesting to see if/how they’re used in the first test
