I can’t believe it! I am absolutely stunned to learn Australia won the “I Lashes.” Amazing! Well done girls. Just goes to show what we can achieve in women’s cricket if we really try hard.

Mooney stars with smashing knock as Aussies annihilate England to retain Ashes

Good grief! My grandfather was still alive when England last won a test match.

Healy stars as Aussies survive late scare to take Ashes lead as England rue fielding blunders

Good grief! Khawaja will be 39! Strewth! Time we introduced another form of the game. Test matches and Youth Test matches for those under 30.

Is Boland in the best team now … and who misses out? Six burning questions Australia must answer before the Ashes

Remember the daze when playing Golden Oldies Rugby was anything over the age of 30? Good to know cricket is a game for those who don’t want to start playing bowls yet. Chaps like Warner who is supposed to have retired, Smith and Bancroft till his recent injury are reveling it seems in cricket.

Is Boland in the best team now … and who misses out? Six burning questions Australia must answer before the Ashes

The only thing going with the Ashes would be the fact that England beat New Zealand in a recent series on overseas pitches while New Zealand did likewise in India win a series. So how good really will Australia be against England? Personally, find the Ashes series quite over-familiar and boring. Now if countries were to have proper full tours playing provinces, states, counties and whatever I would be all for a combination of test matches and the like rather than this frequency of simply nation v nation. One of the most entertaining matches I can recall was of the Fijians playing cricket. They to my mind were the entertainers of pre-hit and miss cricket that India forgot to bring to this past series. Too defensive. Let the Australians dominate their batting.

Pitch perfect: Three-day Tests a small price to pay - batting techniques more to blame for shortened matches

As one famous Australian captain once said ” it would be disastrous if we had to play the game in a climate in which victory was boisterously celebrated and defeat was barely tolerated.” Amen to that Australia.

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

Ricky Ponting is a great one for “bowling at the body.”

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

You don’t congregate next to a group outnumbering you, of jubilant Australians leaping up and down while a decision is being made now would you? It was briefly re-shown where Thing me Bob wasn’t walking off as Ponting described but simply was looking around for the big screen and to be beside his mate, Thingy, the other Indian batsman.

Digital pictures scientifically are different to what is actually viewed. What travels faster? Light or sound?

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

Disagree! Digital colouring differs considerably with the actual colouring. It may have been a shadow cast on the glove that gave an appearance of actually touching the glove especially when looking side on which was the tell-tale acceptance of the verdict.

The best and the most long lasting of quotes would have to be that of the Late John Thornett.
“Behave modestly and calmly because defeat may not be too far away. It would be disastrous if we had to play the game in a climate where winning was boisterously celebrated and defeat barely tolerated.”

'Joe Schmidt has no idea about Australian rugby!' Stitch-ups, brain farts and c-bombs - best quotes of 2024

Come on. Be fair. On to Sydney and lets not mention Sandgate ever and ever again!

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

Let’s not bring up the under-arm incident after all Geoff Howarth did at the very next test go up to Chappell and shake his hand before the commencement of the match.

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

Cummins doesn’t exactly show a modicum of modesty when knocking over the wickets. But that seems to be a recent Australian trait I never saw with the Chappells , Bobby Simpson or Kim Hughes, nor Border. They were quite reserved.

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

He walked to get an opinion from his fellow batsman. Something Ponting didn’t quite truthfully add.

Another insufferable son of the gun-tooting Neddy’s whinging upon modestly winning

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

It was barely touching the bail and was going down leg-side. Not out. Or if you wish lets not have umpires making split second decisions and leave the game up to technology alone. Bell rings for end of each over. Buzzes for no balls. Whistles for boundaries. Alarm goes for disputes such snicks and LBW’s. And above all blares out to the pitch when close-fielders can’t keep their traps shut when intimidating batsmen in the spirit of the game!

'Clearly not out': BCCI heavyweight's bizarre take backs up Gavaskar 'optical illusion' protest over key wicket

On behalf of all the 70, 000 umpires at the MCG Ponting is never wrong!

If Maddison Levi doesn’t get into the Australian Hall of Fame the Ministry of Sport should be relocated to Norfolk Island to rethink its policies.

Time to rock and roll in Cape Town for Aussie sevens as format shaken up

Is promising going to be enough? And was Suaalii worth all that money? I think he got found out this morning.

Wallabies left heartbroken as Ireland stage stunning second-half comeback to win in Dublin

Joe Schmidt was right when he said the Wallabies played conservatively. They needed to play attacking rugby. Not kick the ball away only to give the Irish more opportunities for retaining and utilising possession. They did attack but only in parts in the second hal;f.. Can’t blame the ref for one or two errors as he was fair to both sides unlike last weeks refereeing in Dublin. The Lions look like Irish forwards and Scots backs for next year with one or two sprinklings of the other Four Nations.

Players make coaches provided you select the right ones. Quade could have been the answer but personally Carter Gordon? Has he got his tattoos yet to blend in?

'Galvanise the group': Why Schmidt isn’t sweating despite 66-year first with Wallabies

As a former school-teacher he should know where to address the problem.

'Galvanise the group': Why Schmidt isn’t sweating despite 66-year first with Wallabies

Next year are the British and Irish Lions going to be adopted by various schools? Or are they simply going to live the high life cocooned in their 5 star hotels with their entourage of kicking coaches? psychologists? doctors? scrummage coaches? baggage collectors? defence coaches? weightlifters? PR experts? accountants? secretaries? ticket managers? video recording team? physios? bus drivers? Stuffed Lion Keeper? Instead of making an all out effort to promote the game nation-wide? Forgot! The Padre!

'Galvanise the group': Why Schmidt isn’t sweating despite 66-year first with Wallabies

Jake Gordon a core player? Still not convinced.
