Roar got kicked out of Ballymore because they – again – didn’t pay their bills.

Football in Brisbane desperately needs a home - so why not let Roar invest in one?

If the Bakries are such successful businesspeople why are they investing in a busted football club that doesn’t pay their bills?

Football in Brisbane desperately needs a home - so why not let Roar invest in one?

Why would the Reds “head home” to a proposed 10,000-capacity stadium when they pull 17,000 to 20,000 at Suncorp?
Maybe the Roar need to actually win something and bring crowds before they start talking about a vanity project.

Football in Brisbane desperately needs a home - so why not let Roar invest in one?

Couple of absolute howlers in this.
Ballymore costs significantly less for the Roar than both Suncorp and Kayo in Redcliffe.
The Roar’s low crowd there had nothing to do with Ballymore’s location and everything to do with it being a late season game featuring a Roar team playing like busted a***holes and opposition with zero travelling fans.
Earlier in the season the Roar women got their best crowd ever…at Ballymore. So it’s got more to do with the quality of the people above the pitch than the grass on it.
The article also ignores the obvious question. If the Government was to fund the Perry Park pipe dream, when would football be allowed to use it?
Build any 15-20,000 seat stadium and it’s a rugby union and NRLW ground first.
No government is going to build a special stadium for one sport because they feel bad about having an empty stadium.

“how do we get more footy in the year?”
Easy fix. Full home-and-away Super Rugby season.
Adds on another six games – and three home games for each Australian club.
That’s an extra $500k-ish in PROFIT for each Super club, so an added benefit of pulling the Force/Tahs/Brumbies out of the financial poo (Reds are fine).

'Start winning Super Rugby titles': Why RA has splurged on 64-player tour, and their 'pivot' to ward off NRL threat

RA’s position will be simple. Destroy this fairly flimsy case, then force the Rebels directors to sell their Melbourne mansions to pay the legal costs.

Exclusive: Rebels take Rugby Australia to Federal Court, seek $30m in damages - 'their conduct needs to be exposed'

He said he “would have” offered $50m, if only he hadn’t missed the deadline for the Force to say they had support.
I hate that the corrupt Rebels were given the nod over the Force. But the “Twiggy would have saved rugby with $50m if only he hadn’t been knocked back by RA” is arrant nonsense.
If he had offered RA $50m they would have grabbed it with both hands.

Make league bleed money: How to stop exciting crop of Aussie school boys from leaving rugby

Twiggy never offered $50m.

For once a suggestion from The Roar that isn’t complete nonsense (see every proposal for a third tier).

I am sitting here screaming “NONE OF YOU WENT TO THE NRC GAMES WHEN WE HAD THEM”.

Super Rugby has sucked the life and passion out of our game - and for what?

We have a domestic competition. It’s called Super Rugby.

Super Rugby has sucked the life and passion out of our game - and for what?

In the pantheon of terrible, no good, bad ideas, this one is at the top.

Super Rugby has sucked the life and passion out of our game - and for what?

Can we please, please stop with this nonsense.
Shute Shield final crowd was about 5000. Hospital Cup final was about 6000. Both for much-loved teams in their home towns.
Reds and Tahs regularly draw about 14-15,000 average crowds.
You can’t sit there and whine about “no support for grassroots” when (a) the money to support grassroots comes from ticket sales and (b) you sure ain’t supporting grassroots to the same level as Super Rugby.
Before Super Rugby even started the Reds and Tahs were bringing the big crowds, not the club games. Reds drew 25,000 this year for a tour match against Wales – Brothers v Randwick drew 4000 this year.
How about we get behind Super Rugby (remember Reds v Brumbies brought a 42,000 crowd a few years ago – and don’t give me that “AU-only final” stuff – would have been a similar crowd for the Reds had they got a home quarter/semi/grand final this year).
Push for a full home-and-away Super Rugby season – which solves the problem of not enough rugby for players, as well as puts an extra $200-$500k in the bank for each State through the extra three home games.
Also. The more you whinge about Super Rugby not being terrific the more the TV rights go down. Seriously, people who whine about it are just as bad as the mouth-breathers at News Corp who continually put down the game. Worse. At least News Corp are doing it for their own commercial reasons, rather than just getting sh*t off their liver.

Super Rugby has sucked the life and passion out of our game - and for what?

To be fair, Rugby Australia is starting to get a few things right.
Ditching the ridiculous experiment in bad business that was the Melbourne Rebels, for instance – a team which sucked about $30m out of the game for a grand total of one finals appearance over a decade – and that only after they’d bee rightfully shoved off Port Phillip Bay in a flaming dumpster.
Now if we could only stop every mouth-breather rabbiting on about “rugby is dead/we need a national club comp/third tier” and actually get behind the game….
It’s happened in Queensland and look what happened – a profitable sub-union with better crowds than more than a few NRL sides.

The Wrap: Why Joe Schmidt is sleeping easier than Scott Robertson

Queensland Rugby makes a very tidy sum from the rights of Hospital Cup – with the money pushed back into the clubs themselves and game development.
NSW is different – they got the model completely wrong on SS rights don’t get anything.
Interesting to see where those two states currently are in terms of financial stability…..

At least they got rid of the Rebels.

Queensland has Ballymore’s National Rugby Training Centre – the best high performance facility in Australia (including NRL and AFL) AND a six-game post Super Rugby program.
That’s why players are going there. (Also the best coaching group in Australia).

Why Reds should dominate Australia A squad - and the young gun Wallabies coach should take notice of

You can’t win Super Rugby without having Test caps on your bench.
And the Reds will have them.
Depth wins championships.
Play 20 minutes off the bench in a Super Rugby final or play 80 every game for the Force – and finish your season in May. Hmm????

Why Reds should dominate Australia A squad - and the young gun Wallabies coach should take notice of

Wales were the away team – World Rugby mandates that if there is a jersey clash, then the away team wears their alternate strip.

Wales pip 'youngblood' Reds at the death despite almighty fightback, showstopper try as famous victory goes begging

You must be fun at parties.
Maybe they want to be part of a winning program?

Reds secure Rebels pair in time for Wales clash, Force boost front row stocks by signing Tahs' Wallaby prop

Was injured during the year. Expected will start against Wales.

Reds secure Rebels pair in time for Wales clash, Force boost front row stocks by signing Tahs' Wallaby prop

This is the sort of whining that kills any sort of funding for football.
“Every other sport gets money so why don’t we, boo, hoo”.
That fact is Football Queensland has absolutely fumbled this one.
The ridiculous Perry Park proposal would cost upwards of $300m – all because the Roar can’t pull a crowd. (They pulled their worst crowd at Ballymore because it was at the end of one of their worst seasons).
Football had their chance to get in with Ballymore – the priority of the Government for small stadiums – but they got in a huff and now they’ll be forced to rent it, rather than having equity in it.

How can Queensland host the Olympics if it can't even properly fund football?

You’re forgetting that the Brumbies also give up their vote on the RA Boardalong with their licence.
Queensland now has three out of 13 votes (down from 3 in 16 when both the Rebels and Tahs had an SRP vote).
Which means they now only need one other vote (1/3 of the 13, so, say Tassie) to vote out any RA director at an AGM.
And now only need four votes to call an EGM to roll the Board.
Queensland is very, very powerful here.
The King in the North!

CONFIRMED: Brumbies come under RA's 'operational control' in 'strategic reset' for Super Rugby franchise

That would be the Centre of Excellence at Latrobe which got funding a year or so before the QRU got similar money for Ballymore, and hasn’t even been started yet?
Meanwhile Ballymore has been open for a year….
Says a lot about the capability of the respective administrations…
