Whats really interesting is that when Murdoch bought the rights, it was similar to the NRL and AFL broadcast rights to set up professional rugby down south.

“By setting up the Super 12, the Unions had a product that was in demand from viewers, enabling them to sell a 10-year contract for exclusive television rights to News Corp for US$555 million.”

What is Super Rugby actually for: Do we want it to be the sport's equivalent of the NRL and AFL - or just its Sheffield Shield?

I cant believe no one is referencing the elephant in the room in that we should have never moved away from what worked i.e. Super 12. Strong domestic competition where the best players were funnelled in to the lowest amount of teams possible, creating the best product which is entertaining rugby where us the fans were unsure as to the result.
