I was peaking back in the 80s myself. Back in those days, national sports players weren’t being being filmed by their team mates on their iPhones when on tour. Times have changed & so has entertainment.

WAGs banned from team hotel, family time slashed and Gambhir’s manager told to get off the bus in bizarre BCCI review

Yes, I can see the headlines in the “New Delhi Times”. WAGS see videos of the Indian Cricket team celebrating a test win in Harris Park with the Indian Women’s Cricket team posted on Tik Tok. There will be big trouble in Little India. Be careful what you wish for BCCI.

No 20/20 here. It’s just the same thing I have been seeing the last 2 years. The guy is a peanut.

Round 1 Predicted Teams: Bulldogs - Sexton needs to kick on, wing up for grabs, rising star could be benched

Yes sorry, I got those figures wrong.

Round 1 Predicted Teams: Bulldogs - Sexton needs to kick on, wing up for grabs, rising star could be benched

So at the end oh 2022, please explain to me the exact logic of the Doggies used when deciding to let their Player of the year who played every game & topped their tackle count go to Redcliffe on $300K & bring in Rheed Mahoney for $550K? If they had half a brain they would have offered him a 4 year extension on $450K per season. The Dolphins do not appear to have concerns with either his durability or his talent. They doubled his salary & he has knocked back offers from Sydney clubs to stay there. Kikau only played 9 games for Canterbury in 2023. I hope they don’t have plans to ship him off.

Any further comments re JMK’s performance playing behind a below par forward pack prior to Bennett’s guidance? Although there is no stat that will actually back it up. Over his great career, I saw Cameron Smith give away plenty of “smart” penalties when his team was on the ropes & he his team needed a stop in play to regather & get themselves reset. I just see Mahoney giving away a lot of absolutely stupid penalties late in the tackle counts when the Doggies defence is set & dominating. Hopefully Ciraldo will be working with Mahoney over the summer to play a bit smarter.

Round 1 Predicted Teams: Bulldogs - Sexton needs to kick on, wing up for grabs, rising star could be benched

Like a halfback, a running dummy half is always going to be so much more effective when in he is playing behind a pack that is going forward & not being dominated as the Canterbury forward line was in Jeremy’s time at the dogs. Canterbury’s pack was virtually the worst in the NRL in 2018-2022, hence they only averaged 6 wins a year including a wooden spoon in 2021. JMK played 99 games in his 5 years at the dogs, so his durability could hardly be questioned. “He wasn’t anywhere near the player he has become under Bennett”?? In 2022 Marshall-King started in every NRL match, scored five tries, and averaged 39 tackles per game. He was rewarded with the Bulldogs player of the year. Reasonable effort for player on $300K per season wouldn’t you say?

Yes I do know. Reed Mahoney gave away 22 penalties in the 2024 NRL season. This statistic places him first in the league for penalties conceded that year. Reed Mahoney gave away 22 penalties during the 2023 NRL season. This statistic places him among the top players in the league for penalties conceded that year.

How often does Mahoney give away stupid penalties on the 4th of 5th tackle? They should have kept JMK. His pace from dummy half & his defence is a step above the player the paid big bucks to bring to Belmore.

The doggies haven’t had a decent first grade halfback on their roster since Brent Sherwin. This year their was an opportunity to sign Jarome Luai. A 27yo experienced injury free player in his prime. The doggies would not be taking any chances, they know what they would be getting. Penrith were not in a position to offer him more than $700K. I reckon an offer of $850K to play in a team on the rise under Ciraldo & alongside his former team mates in Burton, Kikau & Crichton, would have been enough to get him to Belmore on a 5 year deal. I can not see the need for Sexton, Taaffe or Hutchison on their roster, so salary cap space should not have been a problem. Isolating a young half as back up & Blake Wilson to cover fullback or wing positions & with that forward pack, I believe the doggies would be in contention for the premiership. The Doggies wont be winning a premiership with Sexton playing halfback.

Basic mathematics can not be disputed. Even on this site!!!

OK, Bumrah: Indian star stupendous against Aussies but not the greatest of all time by a visiting bowler

Australian cricket fans don’t know what you are talking about. The Kiwis kicked up a “stink”, accusing our national team as having an underarm problem.

Yes, Hadlee was a bit selfish like that. Although it didn’t seem to worry Jeremy Coney or the rest of the team I imagine.

Late in his career, I was at the MCG to see Hadlee bowl in the 1987 boxing day test vs Australia. The Aussie crowd were serving it up to Sir Richard with a rhythmic chant. Every time we reached the chorus he would take a wicket & silence the crowd. Very annoying. 10 wickets for the match, this bowler was a champion.

It was a long time ago but I still have strong memories of Marshall & Garner opening the bowling & then the first change bowlers of Holding & Courtney Walsh coming on. Best bowling line-up to tour Australia ever.

“80’s possibly the weakest era in test cricket”. I would agree with you. Although Alan Border was a superstar & Steve Waugh & David Boon were starting their careers. I am still puzzled how we won the 1987 World Cup? In the final, Geoff Marsh scored 24 runs of 49 balls. West Indies cricketers were not getting paid much back in that era. They must have backed themselves not to make the final?????

I totally agree. If DRS was around back in the 1970s & I was a tail end batsman. If the umpire gave me out by either John Snow or Michael Holding, I would not be challenging the decision. I would be putting my bat under my forearm & walking quickly to the dressing sheds.

You can also make a case that the depth of the NZ other bowlers was better than the other Indian bowlers. No superstars but Ewen Chatfield, John Bracewell, Lance Cairns, Martin Snedden offered more in attack than the other Indian bowlers did this summer. If Bumrah wasn’t taking the wickets, Siraj was probably the only other Indian bowler capable of taking multiple wickets. That gave Bumrah figures an advantage.

Most Aussie cricket fans are happy that we won 3-1. Good judgement & a series defeat would by my second choice.

Flem’s Verdict: Aussies have a Big Four with Boland no longer a back-up, SCG pitch not up to scratch and Beau knows Test cricket

Next year Ashes is being built up to be a great series. I wonder how the flogs will handle it if we win next summer?

Until Oct 2025 according to his contract. His winning % of 60.6 is pretty good. But in a two-horse town where AFL is the number 1 footy code with daylight second, I would expect a minimum of 2-3 GFs & a Premiership in his 12 years to suggest it has been a successful era. He has failed to achieve one GF. What he has been able to do is keep them well away from the bottom of the ladder. Not once under his reign have Port failed to win less than 10 games. A lot of very good coaches do not have that in their resume. What that means in my eyes is that every time the fans walk through gates of Adelaide Oval, there is a minimum expectation of a close game. Mostly of a win. There is a heck of a lot of footy fans attending games every week who would like to have that luxury.

AFL Top 100: Can Boak and Wines power Port to elusive premiership?

It was a strange one wasn’t it. I thought there was a clear deflection & the body language from Jaiswal appeared to be that of a man guilty as charged. Often a batsman just go about their business waiting for the not out decision to roll out. If the Indian camp are truly upset by the decision, then Jaiswal should be making a public statement of no contact & lets investigate the technology from there. Although it is not relevant to this decision, Jaiswal was lucky to still be out there & the better team won the match.
