Why stop there? How about 2 half backs, 6 props, a couple of hookers, some 12,13s and some outside backs.

Now or never? Wallabies star weighing up overseas move as Waratahs confirm Gordon as skipper
Having watched Carter Gordon for several seasons, I believe Gold Coast are on a winner. I saw highlights from his Queensland Cup games and he didn’t look out of place. He’s been coached by the likes of Matt Toomua and Andrew John’s at the Rebels, soaked it all up. Put him next to Foran and do it early. The move will pay dividends.
Round 1 Predicted Teams: Titans - Des needs to settle on halves duo, where will ex-Wallabies star get a start?
Webster, Cummins, Boland, Lyon, Murphy. Means Australia effectively have 3 pace bowlers, 3 spinners and can bat to #10.
Will Australia have the Galle to play just one fast bowler in Sri Lanka - Starc or Boland for solitary role?
Gardner’s catch was the equal of Maxwell’s, may be better. I’m loving watching the Ashes, and can’t wait for the test match. There has been some epic cricket and we’ve barely scratched the surface.

Canary yellow is so last century, fluoro is in fashion: Nobody cares if you don’t watch the BBL
Sorry WP, it’s been a long day and I read something into what you said. All me, not you!

I’m not sure why you’re taking the mickey here. I’m not talking about making a spectacle of Premier cricket, just about raising awareness of the local game. First round of the 23/24 Vic Premier season Aaron Finch played for Geelong against Essendon at the Geelong Cricket Club. Don’t you think it would have been good for the local game if a few people turned up to watch?

Premier cricket is the key. Noone seems to understand that the likes of Harry Dixon and Callum Stowe who both played for the Renegades last night will turn out for St Kilda and Geelong respectively. Dixon versus Greenvale in Greenvale and Stowe for Geelong v Prahran in Geelong (may be against W Sutherland) if Shield commitments don’t clash. Casey-South Melbourne, St Kilda, Ringwood and Prahran are all likely to play finals – several state stars could be playing park cricket finals but noone will turn up!!
EDIT – Cricket Victoria, Vic Premier Cricket and the clubs should put those names up in lights on social media.

Hey not all Gen-Xers are grouches 😂 BBL absolutely is the WSC of our generation. I loved it then, and I love it now. My wish is that the game remains quick. Give a bonus point to the side that can wrap up a run chase inside 15 overs. There’s nothing worse than a Maxwell or David running singles chasing a sub 130 score.

Punters needs to get out of the commentary box and into the coaches box more often. He’s one of Australian cricket’s biggest resources. Reopen the Cricket Academy with him in charge.

Fair comment, completely agree.

This we can agree on. I liken Stoinis to Maxwell as Rodman was to Jordan. Trying to be, wanting to be, just nowhere near it. Edit – an that’s probably being unfair to Rodman…

Let’s be fair to Rooster for a second. He didn’t talk up a big game, claiming to Glenn Maxwell junior or anything like that. The hype around him has been from commentators and journalists. He had a great IPL but has had a form slump that he’s not been able to get out of yet. He needs to finish off the last two BBL games and get his head in some Premier Cricket in SA if there’s any left this season. It’s been a bleak season, but many a great player has had a slump.

The game’s gone down the plug hole.

It’s only hypocrisy if Schmidt selects OS based players to play against the British and Irish Lions.

Webster is a great choice as he can support the pace attack and the spin attack. Let’s not forget Head can also bowl off-spin. My question though, why don’t we ever see Steve Smith’s leggies any more?
Aussie squad CONFIRMED: Rookie bolter, Smith to captain, McSweeney returns for Sri Lanka tour
Yep, completely agree. I’m a member of the Storm and was a foundation member of the Rebels. Prior to them, I supported Balmain (pre merger) and the Brumbies but it wasn’t the same. I think Canberra has shown long term support for the Raiders and the Brumbies as local products. The Canberra Comets didn’t last to long for being a contrived entity (although that might be a bit unfair, I probably need to know more). Plenty of good footballers have come out of the ACT including some out-and-out legends such as Jesaulenko, Hird, and Pyke. Just like Tasmania, they’re probably entitled to a team.
Time to end relationship of convenience: Canberra doesn't owe GWS anything
Great point. Even despite the salary cap scandal the Storm have been able to put down roots. The RL Centre of Excellence was finished in 2023, the result of $12m from state government and $1m from the Storm. Players like Jordan Uelese who came from Northern Panthers RFC in Reservoir will end up playing RL for Northern Thunder a stone’s throw away in Broadmeadows where the local council just spent 2.5m updating their infrastructure.
Sydney to host 2027 World Cup final with Melbourne shut out of tournament after Rebels debacle - report
My concern is that young players will see the pack mentality intimidation of the batters and think it’s okay when it’s ultimately not what we want kids to do. I know of incidences in our cricket association of parents as spectators and even as match officials breaching by-laws to the point complaints have been made. Super competitive kids at u10 and u12 with parents enabling them don’t need bad examples on TV. We’ll lose all those kids who just want to play the game and turn away parents who’d have otherwise be managers and coaches.

Sorry should have replied sooner. Vic Premier Cricket has been taking games to regional Victoria also. Essendon played Richmond in Bendigo last season. Keep an eye on PlayHQ, you never know your luck. Can’t say you’ll see any big names though, although at the time Essendon had two contracted players in Bendigo last season – James Seymour (Renegades) and Cam McClure (Stars).
