After the disappointment of missing a berth in the 2023 Grand Final as a result of a one-point loss to eventual premiers Collingwood in the preliminary final, the Giants were looking to atone in 2024.

After winning the first game in the opening round against Collingwood, the Giants remained Top 2 for the first seven rounds of the season.

They remained in the eight for the entire season and finished in fourth place, equal to the third-placed Geelong on points but with an inferior percentage.

The Giants then went out of the final series in straight sets after leading both grand finalists by over 20 points at three-quarter time.

The fourth quarter fade out against eventual premiers Brisbane was particularly galling and may have left a scar on the Giants that may take some time to heal.

Top 100 Game Players Lost: 6.

Top 10 Players Nick Haynes (#6) traded to Carlton and Adam Kennedy (#10) retired will be the most experienced lost to the club whilst Harry Perryman (#19), Isaac Cumming (#31) and James Peatling (#51) will be plying their trade at new AFL clubs and Brayden Preuss (#98) was delisted.

Top 100 Game Players recruited from other clubs: 0.

Jake Stringer – the only import of note – was not a Top 100 game player at either of the two clubs he represented: Western Bulldogs or Essendon.

Current Top 100 Game Players.

Although having only one less all-time Top 100 game player than the other most recently added club (Gold Coast), the current Giants’ list includes the five current players who are also on the all-time Top 100 list: Callan Ward, Toby Greene, Lachie Whitfield, Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly.

Potential Top 100 Game Players Next Season: 4.

Harry Rowstone, Josh Fahey, Joe Fonti and Max Gruzewski should all make the “big time” in 2025.

Players no longer qualified for the Top 100 Game Players: 1.

Only one player, Setanta ÓhAilpín, who was born in Australia to an Irish father and a mother from the Fijian dependency of Rotuma disappeared from the Top 100 games player list.

Setanta retired in 2013 after a number of years at Carlton where he failed to make the Top 100 list at his old, established club.

Top 100 Goal Scorers Lost: 6.

The same six players who lost off the game players list were also members of the goal kickers.

Top 100 Goal Scorers recruited from other clubs: 2.

Jake Stringer was recruited because of his goal-kicking ability at his two previous clubs (#33-Western Bulldogs and #25-Essendon) and no doubt will be keen to add a third accolade to his CV.
