Craig Bellamy has opted to rest 11 players for the trip to Townsville after Melbourne clinched the NRL minor premiership with two games to spare: Jahrome Hughes, Harry Grant, Will Warbrick, Jack Howarth, Nick Meaney, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Josh King, Shawn Blore, Eli Katoa, Trent Loiero and Tui Kamikamica.

Grant Anderson returns and will partner Cam Munster in the halves, with Ryan Papenhuyzen also not rested as he missed a large chunk of time due to injuries earlier in the season. Xavier Coates (hamstring) is still missing from the side.
