Christy has been covering rugby since 2014 after falling in love with the game in 2010 during a year in England. He was employed at Fox Sports from 2015 and worked at News Corp across two stints. During his time at Fox Sports, he was a prolific newsbreaker and published regularly in The Australian. He also covered the Tokyo Olympics for News Corp. Not shy of setting the agenda, he wants to cover rugby from all angles: from Super Rugby and sevens to the international game.

It’s really not that confusing. Anthony Abrahams wrote an analysis of the situation and shared his belief about it. For now, players are allowed to exploit the law to their benefit.

It’s fantastic to see the emergence of Chile, who certainly brought some flair and excitement to the 2023 RWC. Thanks for sharing your unique perspective on rugby in the Americas.

'Nonu means nothing to them': The USA has been selling rugby the wrong way - this is how the 2031 RWC can succeed

Agreed. Madi Ashby is quality. Brilliant one-two punch with Caslick. The team is missing her, as well as ALF.

'Too much respect for Joe': Kiss commits to Queensland as Wallabies coaching circus continues

RA did the deal, it’s on them not Schmidt.

Pleasure, thanks for engaging with it.

Good link with Rugby Victoria.

H, you meet everyone along your journey. Where was that read? haha. Can’t wait to read your 2025 tales.

Forgotten Aussie young gun who would be 'easily the best 10 in the world'

Yes, somewhat. Most coaches and administrators agree there are differences – positive and negative – between styles on either side of the ditch. I think this was less of a NZ issue, and more an issue around Gibson probably not being a head coach (he’s an outstanding assistant) and someone anxious about losing and therefore being out of a job.

Agreed, mate. He hasn’t changed much since he was running around in Sydney, but it was nice to hear him open up on his journey. Thanks for engaging.

Thank you.

Sat on the bench for one season and was given a handful of minutes at best. Tahs were losing and saw their only way out through Foley. It was the wrong op, and it said more about coaches scared about losing their job rather than building depth.

There’s several Super Rugby GMs and CEOs who agree with you. It can be done, but there needs to be more vision from the heads.

Agreed. The Highlanders was a top model when Aaron Smith was playing. He’d usually play around 60 minutes and then replaced. He came off the bench at times with FF starting. It’s about building trust in the wider squad. Longer comp is something virtually everyone wants.

Daniel Halangahu that’s a man quietly building a strong case across the ditch. He’s Phil Waugh’s ol’ mate, too. But, from my understanding, he’s happy in NZ currently and would only come back for the right gig. Peter Hewat a very good assistant coach. Tried his hand at the head coaching role, but I think he knows what he is … sometimes it takes a while.

RA on tenterhooks over Schmidt's future - all signs point to him leaving before the RWC and one KEY addition

Sources, my friend, sources. And lots of time at training sessions, games, coffees (that barista down the road), and, of course, plenty of time on the phone. That’s where the feelings come from. Happy 2025.

Plenty of Johnny Farnham’s who have changed their minds. In fact, pretty much the entire Wallabies coaching staff. Tahs will improve in 2025. McKellar’s exactly what the Tahs need.

I wouldn’t say the Reds were star-studded in 2024. Their tight-five was middle of the road, and they had a second-year fly-half. However, their attack improved in 2024 and they took some big scalps along the way. They should improve in 2025.

He loves coaching. It’s his identity. It could be the only thing that keeps him in Australian rugby, because his decision won’t be based around $.

Gun coach, very New Zealand. He’s not been discussed. He’s very well credentialled.

It’s far too simplistic to look purely at the cattle on the park in the years post the 2015 World Cup. Cheik had a shocker, but he wasn’t helped by the fact no Super Rugby side beat a New Zealand team in 2017, 2018 Force/Rebels pitted against one another, and, of course, the Folau saga that ripped cultures apart inside the Wallabies. Throw in the financial uncertainty, the decision to put Scott Johnson over Cheika rather than simply sack the coach and that provides a greater picture of some of the shortcomings in the post 2015 World Cup final result. Cheik will have learned plenty from the past five years – the results show it – but there’s no way he becomes the next Wallabies coach whilst Phil Waugh is in charge.

My hunch is he’ll tell the team his intentions post the Lions at the Jan 6-10 camp.

Nice one H. Fine contributions throughout the year, too. Have a great end of the year!
